湖北水利水电职业技术学院创办于1952年，2002年经湖北省人民政府批准组建普通高等职业院校，由湖北省水利厅主管，业务上接受湖北省教育厅管理指导，是一所培养水利水电类相关专业人才为主的普通高等职业院校。学院是首批全国水利高等职业教育示范院校、全国优质水利高等职业院校、湖北省优质高等职业院校、内部质量保证体系诊断与改进省级复核有效单位、湖北省最佳文明单位、湖北省平安校园。

Hubei Water Conservancy and Hydropower Polytechnic was founded in 1952. In 2002, it was approved by the Hubei Provincial People's Government to be established as a regular higher vocational college. It is administered by the Hubei Provincial Department of Water Resources and under the management guidance of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education in terms of business. It is a regular higher vocational college mainly cultivating talents in water conservancy and hydropower related majors. The college is one of the first national demonstration colleges for water conservancy higher vocational education, a national high-quality water conservancy higher vocational college, a Hubei provincial high-quality higher vocational college, an effective unit for provincial review of internal quality assurance system diagnosis and improvement, an excellent civilized unit in Hubei Province, and a safe campus in Hubei Province.

学院地处九省通衢的湖北省武汉市，两个校区分别坐落于风景秀丽的南湖和汤逊湖畔，占地总面积1397亩，建筑面积42万余平方米。学院设有水利工程系、电力电子工程系、建筑工程系、机电工程系、商贸管理系、基础课部、思政课部、继续教育部8个教学单位，现有全日制在校生1.4万余人。学院组建五大专业群，设置专业35个，其中国家级骨干专业5个，中央财政支持提升服务能力专业2个，全国水利职业教育示范专业2个，全国水利职业教育优质专业1个，省级重点专业4个，省级高等职业教育品牌专业6个，省级高等职业教育特色专业3个。

The college is located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, which is a thoroughfare of nine provinces. Its two campuses are respectively located beside the beautiful Nanhu Lake and Tangxunhu Lake, covering a total area of 1397 mu with a building area of more than 420,000 square meters. The college has 8 teaching units, including the Department of Water Conservancy Engineering, the Department of Power Electronics Engineering, the Department of Architectural Engineering, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Department of Business Management, the Department of Basic Courses, the Department of Ideological and Political Courses, and the Department of Continuing Education. There are more than 14,000 full-time students. The college has established five major groups, offering 35 majors, including 5 national-level key majors, 2 majors supported by the central finance to improve service capabilities, 2 national water conservancy vocational education demonstration majors, 1 national water conservancy vocational education high-quality major, 4 provincial key majors, 6 provincial higher vocational education brand majors, and 3 provincial higher vocational education characteristic majors.

学院拥有国家职业教育教师教学创新团队1个、全国水利职业教育教师教学创新团队2个，湖北名师1人、湖北名师工作室1个、湖北省职业教育技能名师工作室2个。固定资产总值5.34亿余元，教学仪器设备总值1.39亿余元，馆藏图书69.97万余册，校内实验实训场馆125个，校外实习实训基地110个。70余年的历史沉淀，学院凝练了“修身明志，励学求真”的校训和“百折不挠、自强不息”的办学精神。毕业生毕业去向落实率多年稳定在95%以上，在省内高职院校中居于前列。
