中央司法警官学院是司法部直属的唯一一所普通高等学校，始创于1956年，原名为公安部劳改工作干部学校。1983年划归司法部领导，历经多次更名，2002年4月正式建立中央司法警官学院。作为全国司法行政系统最高学府，学校全面建成了司法行政系统后备人才培养基地、领导干部和高级警官培训基地、司法行政理论研究创新基地，被誉为“司法警官的摇篮”。

The National Police University for Criminal Justice is the only ordinary institution of higher education directly under the Ministry of Justice. Founded in 1956, it was originally named the Public Security Ministry's Correctional Work Cadre School. In 1983, it was placed under the leadership of the Ministry of Justice and went through several name changes. In April 2002, it was officially established as the National Police University for Criminal Justice. As the highest institution of learning in the national judicial administrative system, the university has fully established itself as a training base for reserve talents, a training base for leading cadres and senior police officers, and an innovation base for judicial administrative theoretical research in the judicial administrative system, known as the "cradle of judicial police officers".

学校坐落于河北省保定市，毗邻雄安新区，坚持社会主义办学方向，以教育质量为生命线，依法治校，开放办学。形成了“坚持政治育人，强化职业素养，注重实践能力，发挥行业优势”的鲜明办学特色，以法学、管理学、社会学等学科门类为基础，以监狱学、矫正教育学、刑法学等学科专业为重点，为司法行政事业培养了大批应用型高级专门人才。
