湖南理工学院坐落在国家历史文化名城、国家区域性中心城市——岳阳市，面朝岳阳楼，紧邻洞庭湖，是一所以理工科为主，理、工、文、经、管、法、教、艺等多学科协调发展的省属一本高校，是湖南省博士学位授予立项建设单位、国家产教融合发展工程应用型本科规划高校、湖南省改办大学规划高校、湖南省国内一流学科建设高校。学校自然环境优美，人文底蕴深厚，办学历史可追溯至1910年的湖滨大学。

Hunan Institute of Science and Technology is located in Yueyang, a national historical and cultural city and a national regional central city, facing Yueyang Tower and adjacent to Dongting Lake. It is a provincial first-class university with engineering as its main focus, coordinated development of multiple disciplines including science, engineering, literature, economics, management, law, education, and art. It is a project-constructed unit for doctoral degree authorization in Hunan Province, a planned university for application-oriented undergraduate education in the National Industry-Education Integration Development Project, a planned university for upgrading to a university in Hunan Province, and a university for domestic first-class discipline construction in Hunan Province. The university has a beautiful natural environment and profound cultural heritage, with its educational history dating back to Hubin University in 1910.

现设有18个教学院及1个独立学院——南湖学院，拥有本科专业54个，一级学科硕士学位授权点10个，硕士专业学位授权点13个，国内一流建设学科和国内一流培育学科各1个，省级重点学科2个，省级重点建设学科5个。学校现有校园面积2100余亩，全日制本科生、硕士生、留学生24000余人（含独立学院），教职员工1500余人，其中教授、副教授460余人，硕士生导师400余人。

It currently has 18 teaching colleges and 1 independent college - Nanhu College, with 54 undergraduate majors, 10 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 13 professional master's degree authorization points, 1 domestic first-class construction discipline and 1 domestic first-class cultivation discipline, 2 provincial key disciplines, and 5 provincial key construction disciplines. The university currently covers an area of more than 2100 mu, with over 24,000 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students (including independent colleges), and more than 1,500 faculty members, including over 460 professors and associate professors, and over 400 master's supervisors.

学校坚持以本为本，扎实推进产教融合、协同育人，教育教学能力不断提升。获准立项的本科教学质量工程项目数量居于全省高校前列，其中获国家一流本科专业建设点12个，省级一流本科专业建设点26个，现有国家级特色专业4个、省级特色专业9个；化学工程与工艺专业通过工程教育专业认证，美术学、汉语言文学和化学专业完成师范类专业认证；立项认定国家一流本科课程2门、省级一流本科课程88门、省级课程思政示范课程6门、省级思政金课2门；获批国家级实验教学示范中心1个，国家级大学生校外实践教育基地1个，省部级实践教学平台32个。

The university adheres to the principle of focusing on undergraduate education, solidly promotes industry-education integration and collaborative education, and continuously improves its educational and teaching capabilities. The number of approved undergraduate teaching quality engineering projects ranks among the top universities in the province, including 12 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 26 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 national-level characteristic majors, and 9 provincial-level characteristic majors; the Chemical Engineering and Technology major has passed the engineering education professional certification, and the Fine Arts, Chinese Language and Literature, and Chemistry majors have completed the teacher education professional certification; 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, 88 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 6 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses, and 2 provincial ideological and political golden courses have been approved; 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national college students' off-campus practice education base, and 32 provincial-level practice teaching platforms have been approved.
