包头铁道职业技术学院是一所历史悠久、特色鲜明的全日制公办高等职业学院。学院前身是成立于1956年的原铁道部国家级重点中等职业学校——包头铁路工程学校，1958年升格为包头铁道学院（大学本科），1964年改为中专建制，2003年由铁道部移交包头市政府管理，2008年升格为全日制高等职业技术院校，是内蒙古自治区唯一一所独立设置的铁路高等职业院校。2015年获批自治区示范性高职院校建设单位，2022年获批自治区高水平高职学校和高水平高职专业群双A档建设单位。

Baotou Railway Vocational & Technical College is a full-time public higher vocational college with a long history and distinctive characteristics. Its predecessor was Baotou Railway Engineering School, a national key secondary vocational school under the former Ministry of Railways founded in 1956. It was upgraded to Baotou Railway College (undergraduate level) in 1958, resumed its secondary school system in 1964, was transferred to the management of Baotou Municipal Government from the Ministry of Railways in 2003, and was upgraded to a full-time higher vocational and technical college in 2008. It is the only independently established railway higher vocational college in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 2015, it was approved as a construction unit of autonomous region示范性 higher vocational colleges, and in 2022, it was approved as a double A-level construction unit of autonomous region high-level vocational schools and high-level vocational professional groups.

学院坚持“突出铁路特色，服务区域经济”的办学定位，聚焦交通运输、土木建筑、装备制造、新能源等行业产业，构建了覆盖铁路工程建设、运输管理、装备制造的铁道运输专业群。现有全国示范专业点2个、骨干专业2个，自治区特色专业3个。学院拥有全日制在校生11000余人，教职工681人，其中副高级及以上教师176人，博士、硕士259人。建有校内外实践基地111个，实训设备4848台（套），与国铁企业合作成立6个工匠班，全面实践现代学徒制和铁路“2+1”双培型人才培养模式，毕业生就业呈现“高就业质量、高专业对口、高就业稳定、高起薪标准、高就业满意度”的“五高”态势。

Adhering to the school-running orientation of "highlighting railway characteristics and serving regional economy", the college focuses on transportation, civil engineering and construction, equipment manufacturing, new energy and other industries, and has built a railway transportation professional group covering railway engineering construction, transportation management and equipment manufacturing. It has 2 national demonstration professional points, 2 backbone majors and 3 autonomous region characteristic majors. The college has more than 11,000 full-time students and 681 faculty members, including 176 teachers with associate senior titles or above, and 259 doctors and masters. There are 111 on-campus and off-campus practice bases and 4,848 sets of training equipment. It has established 6 craftsman classes in cooperation with national railway enterprises, fully practicing the modern apprenticeship system and the railway "2+1" double-training talent training model. The employment of graduates presents a "five-high" trend of "high employment quality, high professional relevance, high employment stability, high starting salary standard and high employment satisfaction".

学院位于包头市职业教育园区，建筑面积30.72万平方米，图书馆藏书近50万册。校园采用园林景观式设计，东风号火车头、詹天佑雕像、铁路轨道等形成沉浸式铁路实景参观带，展现全国铁路科普教育基地魅力。学院先后荣获国家首批1+X证书试点院校、第三批现代学徒制试点院校、国家第二批示范性职业教育集团（联盟）培育单位等称号，致力于培养“崇德向善、强基精技、吃苦耐劳、阳光奋斗”的铁院学子，努力建成特色鲜明、行业一流、全国知名的高水平高等职业院校。

The college is located in Baotou Vocational Education Park, with a construction area of 307,200 square meters and a library collection of nearly 500,000 books. The campus adopts a garden landscape design, with the Dongfeng locomotive, Zhan Tianyou statue, railway tracks, etc., forming an immersive railway scene visiting belt, showing the charm of the national railway popular science education base. The college has successively won the titles of the first batch of national 1+X certificate pilot colleges, the third batch of modern apprenticeship pilot colleges, and the second batch of national demonstration vocational education group (alliance) cultivation units.
