昆明医科大学海源学院于2001年由昆明医科大学联合昆明富达实业集团创办，2004年通过教育部首批审核，确认为独立学院，是云南省唯一一所医药卫生类独立学院。2013年通过省教育厅对独立学院首批教学工作评估；2015年民办本科院校办学水平评估中获A等；2023年在省属民办高校办学情况评估中名列前茅。先后被评为云南省优秀普通高等学校、云南省民办教育示范高校、云南省文明学校、云南省委组织部两新组织党建工作示范点、云南省大学生就业工作先进单位等。

Kunming Medical University Haiyuan College was founded in 2001 by Kunming Medical University in conjunction with Kunming Fuda Industrial Group. In 2004, it passed the first batch of examinations by the Ministry of Education and was confirmed as an independent college, being the only independent college of medicine and health in Yunnan Province. In 2013, it passed the first batch of teaching work evaluations for independent colleges by the Provincial Department of Education; in 2015, it was awarded Grade A in the evaluation of the办学 level of private undergraduate colleges; and in 2023, it ranked among the top in the evaluation of the办学 situation of provincial private colleges. It has successively been rated as an Excellent Ordinary Institution of Higher Learning in Yunnan Province, a Model Private Education Institution in Yunnan Province, a Civilized School in Yunnan Province, a Demonstration Site for Party Building Work in Two New Organizations by the Organization Department of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, and an Advanced Unit for Employment Work of College Students in Yunnan Province.

学校始终坚持社会主义办学方向，全面贯彻党的教育方针，落实立德树人根本任务，秉承“应对需要，教育为本，彰显特色，追求卓越”的办学理念，扎根边疆，面向基层，服务全国，立足于服务区域经济社会高质量发展，着力于培养“下得去、用得上、留得住”，理论基础扎实、实践能力优良、德智体美劳全面发展的高素质应用型医药卫生人才。学校高新、杨林两校区办学，设有党政管理机构14个，群团机构3个，党总支11个，教学及辅助机构13个，实验实训机构20个，其中省级实验教学示范中心1个、省级虚拟仿真实验教学中心2个。两校区总占地面积698.21亩；图书馆馆藏图书资源总量122.9695万册；自有非直属附属医院3所，教学医院3所，实践教学基地112个。

The college always adheres to the socialist orientation in running schools, fully implements the Party's educational policy, fulfills the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and upholds the school-running philosophy of "Meeting Needs, Education-Oriented, Highlighting Characteristics, and Pursuing Excellence". Rooted in the border areas, facing the grassroots, and serving the whole country, it is committed to serving the high-quality development of regional economy and society, and strives to cultivate high-quality applied medical and health talents who "can go down, be useful, and stay", with solid theoretical foundation, excellent practical ability, and all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical education, aesthetics and labor. The college runs schools on two campuses, Gaoxin and Yanglin, with 14 party and government management institutions, 3 mass organizations, 11 general party branches, 13 teaching and auxiliary institutions, and 20 experimental and training institutions, including 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center and 2 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers. The total area of the two campuses is 698.21 mu; the total collection of library resources is 1,229,695 volumes; there are 3 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 3 teaching hospitals, and 112 practical teaching bases.

学校面向全国31个省市区、直辖市招生，截至2023年10月底，全日制本科在校生1.6万人。设有临床医学、口腔医学、护理学、药学、眼视光学等21个本科专业，涵盖医学、理学、工学、管理学、教育学共5个学科门类，其中医学检验技术专业为争创国内一流备案专业，护理学专业为省级一流专业建设点，临床医学、护理学、药学、口腔医学4个专业为省级特色专业，医学影像技术、康复治疗学、运动康复、公共事业管理4个专业为院级特色专业，形成了以省级特色专业为引领，院级特色专业为支撑的专业建设体系。建校以来，共输送医药卫生人才3万3千余人，毕业生年终就业率平均保持在90%以上，毕业生从事专业相关工作的比例超过90%；近1000名学子在海内外知名高校攻读硕士学位。

The college enrolls students from 31 provinces, municipalities directly under the Central Government and regions across the country. As of the end of October 2023, there are 16,000 full-time undergraduate students. It offers 21 undergraduate majors such as Clinical Medicine, Stomatology, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Optometry, covering 5 disciplines including Medicine, Science, Engineering, Management, and Education. Among them, the Medical Laboratory Technology major is a备案专业 for striving to be a first-class major in China, the Nursing major is a provincial first-class major construction site, 4 majors including Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Stomatology are provincial characteristic majors, and 4 majors including Medical Imaging Technology, Rehabilitation Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation, and Public Utilities Management are college-level characteristic majors, forming a professional construction system led by provincial characteristic majors and supported by college-level characteristic majors. Since its establishment, the college has trained more than 33,000 medical and health talents. The average annual employment rate of graduates has remained above 90%, and the proportion of graduates engaged in professional-related work has exceeded 90%; nearly 1,000 students have pursued master's degrees in well-known universities at home and abroad.
