Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), founded in 1502, is a renowned public comprehensive research university in Germany and one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its history dates back to the University of Wittenberg established in 1502, which merged with the University of Halle in 1817 and was named after Martin Luther, the father of the Reformation, in 1933. The main campus is located in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, while the Wittenberg campus serves as an academic seminar center, both approximately one hour away from Berlin by train.
