Established in 1857, the University of Madras is one of the three oldest universities in India, known as "the mother of all southern Indian universities" and "the Oxford and Cambridge of India". In terms of internationalization, the university launched its "Study in India Program" in 1997, conducting faculty and student exchanges with universities in Australia, New Zealand, France, focusing on cultural studies and environmental science. The 2004-established International Center offers degree programs and cross-cultural learning initiatives for international students, further promoting global academic collaboration.
