Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public central university of national importance in India. Its predecessor was the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875, which was officially upgraded to a university in 1920. The main campus is located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, covering an area of 467.6 hectares, with three off-campus centers in Malappuram (Kerala), Murshidabad (West Bengal), and Kishanganj (Bihar). As a diverse institution of higher learning, the university admits students of different castes, beliefs, religions, and genders, offering over 300 traditional and modern educational programs spanning humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, and other fields.
