Assiut University, founded in 1957, is a comprehensive public university located in Assiut, Egypt, 375 kilometers south of Cairo. With the philosophy of encouraging research, education, and community service, it is directly affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Education. The university comprises 16 faculties and 2 higher institutes, covering various fields such as engineering, agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, computer and information science, offering over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate programs with instruction in both Arabic and English.

The university has 3,103 staff members and tens of thousands of students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and adult education students. It has multiple faculties in the New Valley Governorate and specialized institutions such as the Sugar Technology Research Institute and the South Egypt Cancer Institute. The campus provides comprehensive facilities for students, including accommodation, catering, medical care, sports, and cultural activities. Scholarships are available for outstanding students, and subsidies for needy students. Ranked in the 1001-1200 range in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, Assiut University has strong strengths in disciplines like agricultural engineering and pharmacy, serving as a key higher education and research center in southern Egypt.
