Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education and one of the first universities listed in China's "Double First-Class" Initiative. As a premier institution for foreign language education in China, BFSU traces its roots to the Russian Language Brigade of the Third Branch of the Yan'an Anti-Japanese Military and Political University founded in 1941. 学校拥有齐全的外语语种专业，开设了101种外国语言，覆盖了与中国建交国家的官方语言，是全国外语语种最多的高校。在学科建设方面，学校形成了以外国语言文学为主体，文、法、经、管、教等多学科协调发展的学科专业体系，其中外国语言文学学科入选国家“双一流”建设学科名单，在教育部学科评估中多次位居全国第一。

BFSU boasts a comprehensive range of foreign language programs, offering 101 foreign languages that cover the official languages of all countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, making it the university with the most foreign language offerings in the country. In terms of discipline development, BFSU has formed a disciplinary system centered on foreign languages and literature, with coordinated development of multiple disciplines including arts, law, economics, management, and education. The discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature has been selected into the national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines list and has repeatedly ranked first in China in the Ministry of Education's学科评估 (Discipline Evaluation).
