保山中医药高等专科学校的前身是创建于1965年6月的国家级重点中专保山卫生学校，2006年2月经教育部批准升格为云南省唯一一所中医药学科特色鲜明、中西医专业协调发展的公办全日制普通高等专科学校。

The predecessor of Baoshan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine is Baoshan Health School, a national key secondary school founded in June 1965. In February 2006, it was upgraded with the approval of the Ministry of Education to become the only public full-time ordinary higher vocational college in Yunnan Province with distinctive characteristics in traditional Chinese medicine disciplines and coordinated development of Chinese and Western medicine majors.

学校于2011年通过高职院校人才培养工作评估，2014年通过公共体育课程教学评估，2016年通过特色评估，2017年整体搬迁新校区办学并通过思想政治理论课建设评估。护理专业在云南省高校护理高职教育专业评估中获五星A级排名第一，针灸推拿专业和临床医学专业教师教学创新团队入选云南省第一批职业教育教师教学创新团队立项建设单位，2022年立项为省级双高学校培育单位。

The school passed the talent training evaluation of higher vocational colleges in 2011, the public physical education course teaching evaluation in 2014, the characteristic evaluation in 2016, and moved to the new campus in 2017 and passed the ideological and political theory course construction evaluation. The nursing major ranked first with five-star A-level in the professional evaluation of nursing higher vocational education in Yunnan Province. The teaching innovation teams of acupuncture and massage and clinical medicine were selected as the first batch of vocational education teachers' teaching innovation team construction units in Yunnan Province, and in 2022, it was established as a provincial double-high school cultivation unit.
