中国地质大学（北京）是一所以地质、资源、环境、地学工程技术为主要特色，理工文管法经教艺协调发展的多科性全国重点大学，是国家“双一流”建设高校、“211工程”重点建设高校，隶属于教育部。学校的前身是1952年由北京大学、清华大学、天津大学和唐山铁道学院等院校的地质系（科）合并组建的北京地质学院，1987年经国家教委批准，更名为中国地质大学，在京汉两地相对独立办学，2005年3月，教育部撤销中国地质大学（北京）和中国地质大学（武汉）的建制，组建新的中国地质大学，两地以中国地质大学（北京）和中国地质大学（武汉）名义分别办学。

China University of Geosciences (Beijing) is a national key university with multiple disciplines, focusing on geology, resources, environment, and geoscience engineering technology, and coordinating the development of science, engineering, liberal arts, management, law, economics, education, and art. It is a "Double First-Class" construction university and a key construction university of the "211 Project", affiliated to the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the university was Beijing Institute of Geology, established in 1952 by merging the geology departments (sections) of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, and Tangshan Railway College. In 1987, with the approval of the State Education Commission, it was renamed China University of Geosciences, running schools relatively independently in Beijing and Wuhan. In March 2005, the Ministry of Education revoked the establishment of China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and established a new China University of Geosciences. The two places run schools in the name of China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) respectively.

学校始终坚持立德树人根本任务，以培养“品德高尚、基础厚实、专业精深、知行合一”的高素质人才为目标，形成了“艰苦朴素、求真务实”的校训和“地学摇篮、育人典范”的办学理念。学校拥有一支结构合理、学术精湛的师资队伍，现有中国科学院院士13人，中国工程院院士1人，国家级教学名师、国家杰出青年科学基金获得者等国家级人才100余人次。学校学科实力雄厚，地质学、地质资源与地质工程两个一级学科连续多年位列全国第一，在第四轮学科评估中均获评A+等级，入选“双一流”建设学科。

The university has always adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and talents, aiming to cultivate high-quality talents with "noble morality, solid foundation, profound professionalism, and unity of knowledge and practice". It has formed the school motto of "hard work, simplicity, truth-seeking and pragmatism" and the school-running philosophy of "cradle of geosciences and model of education". The university has a well-structured and academically excellent faculty, including 13 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and more than 100 national-level talents such as national teaching masters and winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. The university has strong disciplinary strength. The two first-level disciplines of geology, geological resources and geological engineering have ranked first in the country for many years. Both were rated A+ in the fourth round of discipline evaluation and were selected into the "Double First-Class" construction disciplines.

学校教学科研平台完备，拥有国家重点实验室2个、国家工程技术研究中心1个、教育部重点实验室5个、教育部工程研究中心3个等一批国家级和省部级科研平台，为人才培养和科学研究提供了坚实的支撑。学校积极开展国际交流与合作，与世界上50多个国家和地区的200多所大学、科研机构建立了友好合作关系，是中国政府奖学金来华留学生接收院校，培养了大批具有国际视野的高素质人才。

The university has complete teaching and research platforms, including 2 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 3 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, and a number of national and provincial scientific research platforms, providing solid support for talent training and scientific research.
