中华女子学院是直属中华全国妇女联合会、教育部批准备案的全国第一所公办全日制女子普通高等学校，前身是1949年由宋庆龄、何香凝、蔡畅、邓颖超等革命前辈创建的新中国妇女职业学校。学校以培养德智体美劳全面发展，具有“四自”精神、公益情怀、知性优雅的高素质女性人才为目标，开设了涵盖文学、法学、管理学、经济学、教育学、艺术学等多个学科领域的本科专业，形成了以女性教育为特色，多学科协调发展的学科专业体系。

China Women's University is the first public full-time women's ordinary institution of higher education directly under the All-China Women's Federation and approved by the Ministry of Education.
