华东师范大学是由国家举办、教育部主管，教育部与上海市人民政府重点共建的综合性研究型大学，是国家“双一流”“985工程”“211工程”建设高校。学校成立于1951年10月16日，是以大夏大学、光华大学为基础，同时调进圣约翰大学、复旦大学、同济大学和浙江大学等高校的部分系科，在大夏大学原址上创办的新中国第一所社会主义师范大学。

East China Normal University (ECNU) is a comprehensive research university sponsored by the Chinese government and administered by the Ministry of Education. It is jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and is a key university under the national "Double First-Class", "985 Project", and "211 Project" initiatives. Established on October 16, 1951, ECNU was founded on the original site of Daxia University, based on Daxia University and Guanghua University, with departments and programs from other universities such as St. John's University, Fudan University, Tongji University, and Zhejiang University integrated into it. It is the first socialist normal university in New China.

学校现有闵行、中山北路两个校区，校园占地总面积约207公顷。设有4个学部、33个学院（系），覆盖哲学、经济学、法学、教育学、文学、历史学、理学、工学、医学、管理学、艺术学等11个学科门类。学校师资力量雄厚，现有教职工4,300余人，其中专任教师2,300余人，具有高级职称或博士学位的教师占比超过90%。

The university currently has two campuses, Minhang and Zhongshan North Road, covering a total area of approximately 207 hectares. It comprises 4 academic divisions and 33 schools (departments), offering programs across 11 disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management, and arts. ECNU boasts a strong faculty of over 4,300 staff members, including more than 2,300 full-time teachers, with over 90% holding senior professional titles or doctoral degrees.
