福建理工大学坐落于素有“海上丝绸之路门户”之称的历史文化名城福州，发端于1896年清末著名乡贤名士陈璧、孙葆瑨、力钧和闽绅林纾、末代帝师陈宝琛创办的苍霞精舍，首开福州近代新式教育之风。1907年开始举办工科教育，开设铁路、电报两科，解放前为享有盛誉的“福建高工”。2002年由福建建筑高等专科学校与福建职业技术学院合并升格为福建工程学院，2023年6月更名为福建理工大学。学校秉承“真、诚、勤、勇”校训精神，弘扬“大机电、大土木”传统优势，面向“大海洋”新兴领域，发展成为以工为主，理工融合，多学科协调发展的应用型大学，被誉为“福建建筑业的黄埔军校”“机电工程师的摇篮”。

Fujian University of Technology is located in Fuzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as the "gateway of the Maritime Silk Road". It originated from Cangxia Jingshe, founded in 1896 by renowned late Qing Dynasty gentry such as Chen Bi, Sun Baojin, Li Jun, Fujian gentry Lin Shu, and the last imperial teacher Chen Baochen, pioneering modern education in Fuzhou. In 1907, it began offering engineering education with railway and telegraph programs, and was renowned as the prestigious "Fujian Advanced Technical School" before liberation. In 2002, it was upgraded to Fujian University of Technology through the merger of Fujian Institute of Architecture and Fujian Vocational and Technical College, and renamed Fujian University of Technology in June 2023. Upholding the motto of "Sincerity, Integrity, Diligence, Courage", the university carries forward its traditional strengths in "big machinery & electronics" and "big civil engineering", and faces the emerging field of "big ocean", developing into an application-oriented university with engineering as its main focus, integration of science and engineering, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is known as the "Whampoa Military Academy of Fujian's construction industry" and the "cradle of mechanical and electrical engineers".

学校现有旗山、鼓山、浦东等校区，占地2022.61亩，校舍建筑面积71.84万平方米，教学科研仪器设备值53111.48万元，馆藏纸质图书231.92万册，电子图书204.34万册。全日制在校生21096人，其中在读硕士研究生2128人（含硕士留学生）；设有17个学院（部），71个本科专业，涵盖工学、管理学、文学、理学、经济学、法学、艺术学等学科门类。工程学、计算机科学2个学科进入ESI学科全球排名前1%，土木工程学科进入软科世界一流学科排名全球201-300区间和软科中国最好学科排名全国前50%。

The university currently has campuses including Qishan, Gushan, and Pudong, covering an area of 2022.61 mu with a building area of 718,400 square meters. The value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 531.1148 million yuan, with 2.3192 million paper books and 2.0434 million e-books in the library. There are 21,096 full-time students, including 2,128 master's students (including international master's students). It has 17 colleges (departments) and 71 undergraduate majors, covering disciplines such as engineering, management, literature, science, economics, law, and art. Two disciplines, Engineering and Computer Science, have entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings, and Civil Engineering has entered the global 201-300 range in the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects and the top 50% in the ShanghaiRanking's Best Chinese Subjects ranking.
