复旦大学是一所历史悠久、享誉海内外的综合性研究型全国重点大学，位于中国上海市。学校始创于1905年，原名复旦公学，是中国人自主创办的第一所高等院校之一，创始人为中国近代著名教育家马相伯，首任校董为孙中山先生。校名“复旦”二字源自《尚书大传·虞夏传》中的“日月光华，旦复旦兮”，寓意自强不息、追求光明。

Fudan University is a prestigious comprehensive research university with a long history and international reputation, located in Shanghai, China. Founded in 1905 as Fudan Public School, it is one of the first institutions of higher education independently established by the Chinese people. Its founder was Ma Xiangbo, a renowned modern Chinese educator, and its first school director was Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The name "Fudan" originates from the phrase "The brilliance of the sun and moon shines again day after day" in *Shangshu Dazhuan·Yuxia Zhuan*, symbolizing the spirit of self-improvement and the pursuit of light.
