哈尔滨工程大学坐落于美丽的松花江畔——黑龙江省哈尔滨市，是工业和信息化部直属的全国重点大学，国家“双一流”建设高校，国家“211工程”“985工程优势学科创新平台”建设高校。学校前身是创建于1953年的中国人民解放军军事工程学院（“哈军工”），陈赓大将为首任院长，毛泽东主席为学院颁发《训词》。1970年，在哈军工原址以海军工程系为主体组建哈尔滨船舶工程学院，1994年更名为哈尔滨工程大学。

Harbin Engineering University is located on the beautiful banks of the Songhua River in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. It is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a national "Double First-Class" construction university, and a university under the "211 Project" and "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction. The predecessor of the university was the PLA Military Engineering Institute ("Harbin Military Engineering Institute") founded in 1953. General Chen Geng was the first president, and Chairman Mao Zedong issued the "Instructions" for the institute. In 1970, Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute was established on the original site of Harbin Military Engineering Institute with the Department of Naval Engineering as the main body, and was renamed Harbin Engineering University in 1994.

学校始终坚持“三个面向”（面向船舶工业、面向海洋开发、面向国防建设）的办学定位，以船舶与海洋工程学科为特色，形成了“三海一核”（船舶工业、海军装备、海洋开发、核能应用）为主的学科专业体系。学校现有一级学科博士学位授权点21个，一级学科硕士学位授权点40个，博士后科研流动站16个，国家重点学科3个，国家重点（培育）学科2个，省级重点学科29个。在第四轮学科评估中，船舶与海洋工程学科获评A+，控制科学与工程学科获评A-，动力工程及工程热物理、计算机科学与技术、管理科学与工程等学科进入全国前20%。

The university has always adhered to the school-running orientation of "three orientations" (facing the shipbuilding industry, facing marine development, and facing national defense construction), with the discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering as its特色, forming a disciplinary professional system dominated by "Three Seas and One Nuclear" (shipbuilding industry, naval equipment, marine development, and nuclear energy application). The university currently has 21 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 40 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 16 post-doctoral research stations, 3 national key disciplines, 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines, and 29 provincial key disciplines. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, the discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering was awarded A+, the discipline of Control Science and Engineering was awarded A-, and disciplines such as Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, Computer Science and Technology, and Management Science and Engineering entered the top 20% in the country.

学校师资力量雄厚，现有教职工3500余人，其中中国工程院院士10人，国家级教学名师2人，国家级有突出贡献中青年专家6人，“万人计划”领军人才14人，“长江学者”特聘教授、讲座教授11人，国家杰出青年科学基金获得者19人。学校始终把人才培养作为根本任务，形成了“严谨、求实、勤奋、创新”的优良校风，培养了大批高素质创新型人才，毕业生就业率连续多年位居全国高校前列，为我国船舶工业、国防科技事业和经济社会发展做出了重要贡献。

The university has a strong faculty, with more than 3,500 faculty members, including 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 national-level teaching masters, 6 national-level middle-aged and young experts with outstanding contributions, 14 leading talents of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 11 "Changjiang Scholars" distinguished professors and chair professors, and 19 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. The university has always regarded talent cultivation as its fundamental task, formed a fine school spirit of "rigorous, realistic, diligent, and innovative", cultivated a large number of high-quality innovative talents, and the employment rate of graduates has ranked among the top universities in the country for many years, making important contributions to China's shipbuilding industry, national defense science and technology cause, and economic and social development.
