河北地质大学始建于1953年，由著名地质学家李四光、老一辈革命家何长工选址塞外古城宣化成立中央人民政府地质部宣化地质学校，是新中国最早设置经济管理类专业的原地质部直属五大院校之一。1971年改办河北地质学院，1985年迁至河北省省会石家庄，1996年更名为石家庄经济学院，2016年定名为河北地质大学。学校现为自然资源部与河北省人民政府共建高校，河北省重点骨干大学，河北省国内一流大学建设高校。

Hebei GEO University was founded in 1953 as Xuanhua Geological School of the Ministry of Geology of the Central People's Government, located in the ancient city of Xuanhua. It was one of the five universities directly under the former Ministry of Geology and among the earliest institutions in New China to offer economic management programs. Renamed Hebei Geological College in 1971, it moved to Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province in 1985, was renamed Shijiazhuang University of Economics in 1996, and assumed its current name in 2016. It is now a university jointly built by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People's Government of Hebei Province, a key university in Hebei Province, and a university under Hebei's domestic first-class university construction program.

学校以“达观博物”为校训，弘扬“仰山慕水”文化，确立了“为服务地质行业、服务地方发展培养经世致用复合型人才”的“双地”办学定位，突出“地经渗透”办学特色。设有理学、工学、管理学、经济学、法学、文学、艺术学、教育学8大学科门类，70个本科专业，12个硕士学位一级学科，13个硕士专业学位类型。现有全日制在校生约18000人，教职员工1700余人，其中专任教师50%以上具有高级专业技术职务，55%以上具有博士学位。拥有2个国家级实验教学示范中心、27个省部级科技创新平台，以及地球科学博物馆和钱圆金融博物馆等特色教学资源。

With the motto "Broad-Minded and Knowledgeable" and promoting the "Respecting Mountains and Admiring Waters" culture, the university has established a "dual-orientation" school-running positioning of "cultivating practical and versatile talents for serving the geological industry and local development", highlighting the characteristic of "integration of geology and economics". It offers 8 disciplines including science, engineering, management, economics, law, literature, art, and education, 70 undergraduate programs, 12 first-level disciplines for master's degrees, and 13 types of professional master's degrees. Currently, there are approximately 18,000 full-time students and over 1,700 faculty members, with more than 50% of full-time teachers holding senior professional titles and over 55% having doctoral degrees. It has 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 27 provincial-level scientific and technological innovation platforms, as well as characteristic teaching resources such as the Earth Science Museum and the Money and Finance Museum.

学校地质学、地质资源与地质工程、工商管理学科被纳入河北省国内一流学科建设范围，拥有9个国家级一流本科专业建设点、16个省级一流本科专业建设点，4个国家级特色专业。近年来，获得国家科学技术进步奖、自然科学奖、教学成果奖6项，4篇学术论文在《Nature》《Science》《Cell》三大国际顶级期刊发表。建校70年来，培养了20万余名毕业生，涌现出以中国工程院院士武强、毛景文、谢玉洪，中国科学院院士侯增谦、成秋明等为代表的一大批杰出校友。

The university's geology, geological resources and geological engineering, and business administration disciplines are included in Hebei's domestic first-class discipline construction scope. It has 9 national first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 16 provincial first-class undergraduate program construction sites, and 4 national characteristic majors. In recent years, it has won 6 national science and technology progress awards, natural science awards, and teaching achievement awards, and 4 academic papers have been published in the three top international journals: Nature, Science, and Cell. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, it has cultivated more than 200,000 graduates, including a large number of outstanding alumni represented by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Wu Qiang, Mao Jingwen, Xie Yuhong, and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hou Zengqian, Cheng Qiuming, etc.
