黑龙江科技大学地处美丽的冰城夏都哈尔滨市的松花江畔，经过77年的建设发展已成为一所理、工、管、文、经、法等学科协调发展，以工为主、以矿业为学科专业特色的多科性大学，为区域经济社会和我国煤炭工业发展作出了突出贡献，被誉为“煤炭工业的脊梁”“煤矿工程师的摇篮”。学校是黑龙江省人民政府与国家应急管理部共建高校，是国家教学工作水平评估优秀院校，是黑龙江省特色应用型本科建设示范高校。

Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology is located on the banks of the Songhua River in Harbin, the beautiful "Ice City and Summer Capital". After 77 years of development, it has become a multidisciplinary university with coordinated development of disciplines including science, engineering, management, liberal arts, economics, and law. It is engineering-oriented with mining as its disciplinary feature, making outstanding contributions to regional economic and social development and China's coal industry. It is known as "the backbone of the coal industry" and "the cradle of coal mine engineers". The university is a joint construction institution by the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China, an excellent institution in the national teaching level evaluation, and a demonstration university for characteristic application-oriented undergraduate construction in Heilongjiang Province.

学校创建于1947年，其前身是中国共产党创建的我国第一所矿业类院校——东北工人学校。1954年与鹤岗煤矿工业学校合并成立鸡西煤矿学校。1978年，国务院同意增设鸡西矿业学院，1981年改称黑龙江矿业学院，隶属于原国家煤炭工业部。1998年划归地方，实行中央与地方共建、以黑龙江省管理为主的体制。2000年更名为黑龙江科技学院。2013年更名为黑龙江科技大学。

Founded in 1947, the university's predecessor was the Northeast Workers' School, the first mining institution established by the Communist Party of China. In 1954, it merged with Hegang Coal Mine Industrial School to form Jixi Coal Mine School. In 1978, the State Council approved the establishment of Jixi Mining Institute, which was renamed Heilongjiang Mining Institute in 1981 and affiliated to the former State Coal Industry Ministry. In 1998, it was transferred to local management under the system of joint construction by the central and local governments with Heilongjiang Province as the main administrator. In 2000, it was renamed Heilongjiang Institute of Science and Technology, and in 2013, it was renamed Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology.
