湖南城市学院是一所由湖南省人民政府主办的全日制普通本科院校，位于中国羽毛球运动之乡、中国竹子之乡、中国黑茶之乡、“山乡巨变”策源地、洞庭湖南岸千年银城——湖南省益阳市。学校人文底蕴深厚，自然环境优美，交通便捷，距省会长沙中心城区约60公里，高铁仅半个小时。学校前身为1970年创办的益阳地区师范专科学校（1992更名为益阳师范高等专科学校）和1978年创办的益阳基础大学（1993更名为湖南城建高等专科学校），2002年3月经教育部批准合并组建为湖南城市学院。

Hunan City University is a full-time ordinary undergraduate institution sponsored by the People's Government of Hunan Province. It is located in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, known as the hometown of Chinese badminton, Chinese bamboo, Chinese dark tea, the birthplace of "Mountain Village巨变", and the millennium silver city on the south bank of Dongting Lake. The university has a profound cultural heritage, beautiful natural environment, and convenient transportation, about 60 kilometers away from the central urban area of Changsha, the provincial capital, with a high-speed rail ride of only half an hour. Its predecessor was Yiyang Regional Teachers College founded in 1970 (renamed Yiyang Normal College in 1992) and Yiyang Basic University founded in 1978 (renamed Hunan Urban Construction College in 1993). In March 2002, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to merge and form Hunan City University.

学校遵循党和国家教育方针，秉承“品学兼修，知行统一”的校训精神，努力办人民满意的大学。现有校园面积1586亩，建筑面积61.25万平方米，固定资产15.78亿元，纸质图书藏书286万余册，电子图书228万余册。设有14个二级学院，50个本科招生专业，以工为主，涵盖理、文、管、教、艺、经、法等多个学科，面向31个省、市、自治区招生，现有全日制本科生25000余人，硕士研究生授权点12个，在校硕士研究生114名。

Adhering to the educational policy of the Party and the country and the school motto of "Integration of Morality and Learning, Unity of Knowledge and Practice", the university strives to run a university满意 by the people. It currently covers an area of 1586 mu, with a building area of 612,500 square meters, fixed assets of 1.578 billion yuan, more than 2.86 million paper books, and more than 2.28 million e-books. It has 14 secondary colleges and 50 undergraduate enrollment majors, mainly focusing on engineering, covering multiple disciplines such as science, liberal arts, management, education, art, economics, and law. It enrolls students from 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, with more than 25,000 full-time undergraduates, 12 master's degree authorization points, and 114 master's students on campus.

学校坚持立德树人根本任务，构建了“1234”应用型人才培养体系，拥有国家级课程教学团队1个，省级课程教学团队42个，省级高层次研究团队1个。近年来，累计获国家级教学成果奖3项、省级教学成果奖39项，城乡规划、电子信息工程、土木工程、工程管理等4个专业认定为国家级一流本科专业建设点，29个专业认定为湖南省一流本科专业建设点，在人才培养、科学研究、社会服务等方面取得显著成就，2021年被教育部批准为湖南省唯一新增硕士学位授予单位，2023年自主招收第一批硕士研究生，办学层次实现历史性飞跃。

Adhering to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the university has constructed the "1234" applied talent training system, with 1 national-level course teaching team, 42 provincial-level course teaching teams, and 1 provincial-level high-level research team. In recent years, it has accumulated 3 national teaching achievement awards and 39 provincial teaching achievement awards. Four majors including Urban Planning, Electronic Information Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Engineering Management have been recognized as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 29 majors as Hunan provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. It has made remarkable achievements in talent training, scientific research, and social services. In 2021, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as the only new master's degree-granting unit in Hunan Province, and in 2023, it independently enrolled the first batch of master's students, achieving a historic leap in the school-running level.
