湖南国防工业职业技术学院是湖南省人民政府主办、湖南省教育厅直属管理的公办高职院校，前身为1962年中国兵器江南机器厂创办的职工工艺技术培训班。2008年改办为湖南科技工业职业技术学院，2016年更名为现用名，始终依托国防军工行业办学，开设机械设计与制造、工业机器人技术等32个专业，拥有湖南省高水平专业群2个，是中央军委和教育部确定的定向培养军士院校，在校军士生规模居全国同类院校前列。

Hunan Defense Industry Polytechnic is a public vocational college sponsored by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and directly managed by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. Its predecessor was the Staff Craft Technology Training Class founded by China North Industries Group's Jiangnan Machinery Factory in 1962. It was restructured into Hunan Science and Technology Industry Polytechnic in 2008 and renamed to its current name in 2016. Relying on the national defense industry, the college offers 32 majors including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing, Industrial Robot Technology, with 2 Hunan Provincial High-level Professional Groups. It is a military sergeant-oriented training institution designated by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Education, with the number of military sergeant students ranking among the top同类 colleges nationwide.

学院现有教职员工294人，高级职称及硕博教师占比达50%，各类在校生5675人，固定资产2.3亿元，教学仪器设备总值6480万元。先后荣获湖南省示范性（骨干）高职院校、全国高技能人才培养示范基地等称号，连续8年位列湘潭市高校综治民意调查榜首，为国防军工行业和区域经济发展培养了大批技术技能人才。

It has fixed assets of 230 million yuan and teaching equipment worth 64.8 million yuan.
