湖南高速铁路职业技术学院前身为1951年由铁道部创办的衡阳铁路工程学校，首任校长为原铁道兵副司令员、铁道部部长郭维城将军。学院是经湖南省人民政府批准、教育部备案，由衡阳市人民政府主办主管，广州铁路（集团）公司与衡阳市人民政府共建的全日制公办普通高等学校，也是全国第一所以“高铁”命名、中南地区唯一以铁路工程建设为主体专业的高职院校。

Hunan Vocational College of Railway High-speed was formerly known as Hengyang Railway Engineering School founded by the Ministry of Railways in 1951. Its first president was General Guo Weicheng, former Deputy Commander of the Railway Corps and Minister of Railways. The college is a full-time public ordinary higher education institution approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government, registered with the Ministry of Education, sponsored and administered by the Hengyang Municipal People's Government, and co-constructed by the Guangzhou Railway (Group) Corporation and the Hengyang Municipal People's Government. It is also the first higher vocational college named after "high-speed railway" in China and the only one in central and southern China with railway engineering construction as its main specialty.

学院坐落于湖南省衡阳市珠晖区，占地面积800多亩，建筑面积近30万平方米，全日制在校生13000余人，教职员工近千人，其中硕士以上学位教师300余人，副高以上职称教师200人，“双师素质”教师占专任教师比例达81.7%。设有7个二级学院共32个专业，形成了以高铁、轨道交通为特色的专业格局，拥有湖南省“楚怡”高水平专业群3个、服务“三高四新”战略高水平专业群1个，铁路专业覆盖车、机、工、电、辆、信等全部工种。

Located in Zhuhui District, Hengyang City, Hunan Province, the college covers an area of more than 800 mu with a building area of nearly 300,000 square meters. It has over 13,000 full-time students and nearly 1,000 faculty members, including more than 300 teachers with master's degrees or above, 200 teachers with associate senior titles or above, and "double-qualified" teachers accounting for 81.7% of the full-time teachers. It has 7 secondary colleges offering 32 majors, forming a specialty pattern featuring high-speed railway and rail transit. It has 3 Hunan Provincial "Chuyi" high-level professional groups, 1 high-level professional group serving the "Three Highlands and Four New Missions" strategy, and railway majors covering all types of work such as train operation, machinery, engineering, electricity, vehicle maintenance, and signal communication.

作为湖南省楚怡高水平高职学校、省卓越高职院校、省文明标兵校园，学院拥有国家级职教集团、国家级众创空间等多个国家级平台，办学73年来为中国铁路培养了近10万“铁军”，被誉为中国铁路的“黄埔军校”“站段长的摇篮”。近年毕业生就业率均达96%以上，主要面向国铁集团、地铁公司、中国中铁、中国铁建等企业高质量就业，多次获评湖南省就业创业一把手工程优秀单位。

As a Hunan Provincial "Chuyi" high-level vocational school, a provincial excellent higher vocational college, and a provincial civilized model campus, the college has multiple national-level platforms such as a national vocational education group and a national makerspace. Over the 73 years of its operation, it has trained nearly 100,000 "iron army" for China's railways and is known as the "Whampoa Military Academy" of China's railways and the cradle of station masters. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has reached over 96%, mainly employed in high-quality jobs in enterprises such as China Railway Group, metro companies, China Railway Engineering Corporation, and China Railway Construction Corporation. It has been repeatedly rated as an excellent unit in Hunan Province's employment and entrepreneurship first-hand project.
