湖南工业职业技术学院是1999年经教育部批准设立的省属公办全日制普通高等职业院校，前身为创办于“一五”期间的湖南工业学校，办学历史可追溯到湘籍教育家陈润霖先生于1909年创办的楚怡工业学校，是湖南省内装备制造专业最全、规模最大、历史最久的高职院校。学校坐落在长沙市岳麓区含浦科教园，校园占地面积1159余亩，现有全日制在校学生12633人，校舍总建筑面积39万多平方米，馆藏图书164余万册，教职工812人，其中专任教师731人，博士37人，副高及以上职称272人。

Hunan Industry Polytechnic is a public full-time higher vocational college approved by the Ministry of Education in 1999. Its predecessor, Hunan Industrial School, was founded during the "First Five-Year Plan" period, and its educational history can be traced back to Chuyi Industrial School founded by Hunan educator Mr. Chen Runlin in 1909. It is the vocational college with the most comprehensive equipment manufacturing majors, the largest scale and the longest history in Hunan Province. Located in Hanpu Science and Education Park, Yuelu District, Changsha, the campus covers an area of more than 1159 mu, with 12,633 full-time students, a total building area of over 390,000 square meters, 1.64 million books in the library, 812 faculty members, including 731 full-time teachers, 37 doctors, and 272 with associate senior titles or above.

学校设有机械工程学院等13个教学机构，开设全日制高职专科专业37个，入选国家示范校重点建设专业3个、国家骨干专业6个、全国示范专业点3个、国家精品专业1个，建有国家级职业教育专业教学资源库1个，国家级精品课程和精品在线开放课程10门，荣获全国教材建设奖1项、国家级教学成果二等奖2项。秉承“立德、敬业、精技、创新”的校训，学校先后被授予“全国普通高校毕业生就业工作先进集体”“全国机械行业文明单位”“湖南省文明标兵校园”等称号，是湖南省高技能人才培训定点机构、湖南省汽车制造业高级技能人才培养培训基地。

The college has 13 teaching institutions including the School of Mechanical Engineering, offering 37 full-time higher vocational programs. It has been selected into 3 national demonstration key construction majors, 6 national backbone majors, 3 national demonstration professional points, and 1 national excellent major. It has built 1 national vocational education professional teaching resource database, 10 national excellent courses and excellent online open courses, and won 1 National Teaching Material Construction Award and 2 second prizes of National Teaching Achievements. Adhering to the school motto of "Establishing Morality, Devoting to Profession, Mastering Skills, and Innovating", the college has been awarded titles such as "National Advanced Collective for Employment Work of College Graduates", "National Civilized Unit in Machinery Industry", and "Hunan Provincial Civilized Model Campus". It is a designated institution for high-skilled talent training in Hunan Province and a training base for senior skilled talents in Hunan's automobile manufacturing industry.
