防灾科技学院是中国应急管理部直属的唯一一所全日制普通高等学校，始建于1975年，其前身是国家地震局天水地震学校。学校以地震灾害防治为特色，面向全国招生，培养防灾减灾救灾领域的应用型高级专门人才，被誉为“防灾减灾人才培养的摇篮”和“地震监测的黄埔军校”。

Institute of Disaster Prevention is the only full-time ordinary institution of higher education directly under the Ministry of Emergency Management of China. Founded in 1975, its predecessor was the Tianshui Seismological School of the State Seismological Bureau. With the特色 of earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation, the university enrolls students nationwide and cultivates applied senior professionals in the field of disaster prevention, mitigation and relief. It is known as "the cradle of talent training for disaster prevention and mitigation" and "the Whampoa Military Academy of earthquake monitoring".

学校现有本科专业30余个，涵盖理学、工学、管理学、文学、经济学、法学等多个学科门类，其中地球物理学、勘查技术与工程、土木工程、公共事业管理等专业为国家级一流本科专业建设点。学校拥有一支结构合理、经验丰富的师资队伍，其中高级职称教师占比超过40%，并聘请了中国工程院院士等一批国内外知名专家学者担任兼职教授。

The university currently has more than 30 undergraduate majors, covering multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, management, literature, economics, and law. Among them, geophysics, exploration technology and engineering, civil engineering, and public utilities management are national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. The university has a well-structured and experienced faculty, with senior professional title teachers accounting for more than 40%. It has also hired a number of well-known domestic and foreign experts and scholars, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as part-time professors.
