湖南医药学院肇始于1912年，前身为著名医学教育家颜福庆先生创立的长沙红十字会看护训练所，1924年正式建立仁术护病学校。1961年从长沙搬迁至安江建立湖南省黔阳卫生学校，1981年更名为湖南省怀化地区卫生学校，1984年搬迁至怀化，2000年升格为怀化医学高等专科学校，2014年升格为湖南医药学院。学校现有锦溪校区和金海校区，占地面积共94.53万平方米，校舍建筑总面积27.72万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值约2亿元。

Hunan University of Medicine originated in 1912 as the Changsha Red Cross Nursing Training Institute founded by the renowned medical educator Mr. Yan Fuqing. It was officially established as Renshu Nursing School in 1924. In 1961, it moved from Changsha to Anjiang and was renamed Hunan Qianyang Health School. In 1981, it was renamed Hunan Huaihua Prefectural Health School, and in 1984, it relocated to Huaihua. In 2000, it was upgraded to Huaihua Medical College, and in 2014, it was升格 to Hunan University of Medicine. The university now has two campuses: Jinxi and Jinhai, covering a total area of 945,300 square meters with a total building area of 277,200 square meters. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is approximately 200 million yuan.

近3年，学校共获批国家级、省部级等纵向科研项目530项，经费2562.9万元，横向科研项目220项，经费9319.36万元；荣获省部级以上科研成果奖14项，出版著作39本，授权国家各类专利433项，累计发表高水平科研论文587篇。学校图书馆馆藏纸质图书111.06万册、电子图书113.62万册。学校现有教职医护员工4740人（含直属型附属医院），其中高级职称1014人，具有博士、硕士学位教师1380人，享受政府特殊津贴专家2人，博士生导师5人，硕士生导师105人，培养认定临床教师3837人。

In the past three years, the university has obtained 530 vertical research projects at the national and provincial levels, with funding of 25.629 million yuan, and 220 horizontal research projects, with funding of 93.1936 million yuan. It has won 14 scientific research achievement awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, published 39 works, obtained 433 national patents of various types, and accumulated 587 high-level scientific research papers. The university library has a collection of 1.1106 million paper books and 1.1362 million e-books. The university currently has 4,740 faculty and medical staff (including directly affiliated hospitals), among whom 1,014 have senior professional titles, 1,380 teachers have doctoral or master's degrees, 2 experts enjoy special government allowances, 5 are doctoral supervisors, 105 are master supervisors, and 3,837 clinical teachers have been trained and certified.

学校面向全国27个省（自治区、直辖市）招生，在校全日制大学本科生16000余人。学校设有16个二级教学机构及生物医药研究院，拥有国际合作平台2个、国家药物临床试验机构2个、省部级科研平台28个、市厅级科研平台48个。现有医学、教育学、管理学3个学科门类，开设21个本科专业，其中药学专业为国家级一流专业建设点，临床医学、护理学等6个专业为省级一流专业建设点，临床医学、药学、护理学3个学科为省级应用特色学科。

The university enrolls students from 27 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) across the country, with more than 16,000 full-time undergraduate students. It has 16 secondary teaching institutions and an Institute of Biomedical Research, 2 international cooperation platforms, 2 national drug clinical trial institutions, 28 provincial-level scientific research platforms, and 48 municipal-level scientific research platforms. It currently has 3 disciplines: Medicine, Education, and Management, offering 21 undergraduate majors. Among them, the Pharmacy major is a national first-class professional construction site, 6 majors including Clinical Medicine and Nursing are provincial first-class professional construction sites, and 3 disciplines including Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing are provincial applied characteristic disciplines.

学校先后获评全国卫生系统先进单位、全国学籍管理先进单位、全国五四红旗团委、全国无偿献血促进奖、湖南省文明标兵单位、湖南省普通高等学校就业创业工作一把手工程优秀单位、湖南省就业创业示范校、湖南省实践教学管理先进单位，是中国—巴基斯坦中医药中心依托单位、大湘西区域医疗卫生中心建设牵头单位、省级区域医疗中心建设单位、硕士学位授予立项建设单位。（2025年10月更新）

The university has successively been awarded the Advanced Unit of the National Health System, Advanced Unit of National Student Status Management, National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee, National Blood Donation Promotion Award, Hunan Provincial Civilized Model Unit, Excellent Unit of the "First Leader Project" for Employment and Entrepreneurship in Hunan Provincial Colleges and Universities, Hunan Provincial Employment and Entrepreneurship Demonstration School, and Advanced Unit of Practical Teaching Management in Hunan Province. It is the supporting unit of the China-Pakistan Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, the leading unit for the construction of the regional medical and health center in western Hunan, the construction unit of the provincial regional medical center, and the project construction unit for granting master's degrees.
