湖南铁道职业技术学院始建于1951年，是一所以工科专业为主，文管经等专业共同发展的公办综合性高职院校。2006年立项国家首批示范性高职院校，2015年立项湖南省首批卓越院校建设单位，2019年入选国家优质高职院校，2019年入选中国特色高水平高职学校建设单位。

Hunan Railway Professional Technology College was founded in 1951. It is a public comprehensive higher vocational college mainly focusing on engineering majors with the coordinated development of arts, management, economics and other disciplines. In 2006, it was approved as one of the first batch of national示范性 higher vocational colleges. In 2015, it was listed as one of the first batch of excellent college construction units in Hunan Province. In 2019, it was selected as a national high-quality higher vocational college and a construction unit of China's characteristic high-level vocational schools.

学校是首个国家重大行业产教融合共同体“国家轨道交通装备行业产教融合共同体”副理事长单位、职业院校牵头单位；是教育部第一批市域产教联合体牵头单位。被评为教育部现代学徒制试点学校、教育部数字化试点校，是全国职教师资培训基地、国家级双师型教师培训基地、国家高职高专先进制造技术学生实训（师资培训）基地、首批“国家高技能人才培训基地”。

The college is the vice-chairman unit and the leading vocational college of the "National Rail Transit Equipment Industry Industry-Education Integration Community", the first national major industry industry-education integration community. It is also the leading unit of the first batch of municipal industry-education consortia of the Ministry of Education. It has been rated as a pilot school of modern apprenticeship system by the Ministry of Education and a digital pilot school of the Ministry of Education. It is a national vocational teacher training base, a national double-qualified teacher training base, a national advanced manufacturing technology student training (teacher training) base for higher vocational colleges, and one of the first batch of "National High-skilled Talent Training Bases".
