湖南艺术职业学院是湖南省唯一一所公办综合类艺术高等职业院校，其前身是1923年创立的湖南私立华中高级艺术职业学校（简称“华中艺专”）。1951年，华中艺专更名改制为湖南省艺术学校，历经多次发展阶段后，于2002年与湖南省电影学校合并升格为湖南艺术职业学院。2018年，学校整体搬迁至长沙松雅湖东岸新校区，总占地面积380亩，建筑面积26万平方米，校园环境典雅，艺术氛围浓厚。

Hunan Vocational College of Art is the only public comprehensive art higher vocational college in Hunan Province. Its predecessor was Hunan Private Huazhong Advanced Art Vocational School (referred to as "Huazhong Art College") founded in 1923. In 1951, Huazhong Art College was renamed and restructured into Hunan Art School. After several stages of development, it merged with Hunan Film School in 2002 and was upgraded to Hunan Vocational College of Art. In 2018, the school was relocated to the new campus on the east bank of Songya Lake in Changsha, with a total area of 380 mu and a construction area of 260,000 square meters. The campus environment is elegant and has a strong artistic atmosphere.

学校秉持“德艺双馨，敢为人先”的校训，构建了以表演艺术专业群为核心，舞台艺术设计、广播影视、文化旅游专业群为支撑的特色专业体系，开设31个专业，现有全日制在校生7000余人，专任教师389人，其中正高职称32人、副高职称109人。建校以来，学校培养了周令钊、张也、雷佳、瞿颖等大批艺术名家，被誉为“文艺湘军的摇篮”，先后荣获“全国文化工作先进集体”“湖南省示范性高等职业学院”等荣誉称号。

Adhering to the school motto of "Excellence in Virtue and Art, Daring to Be the First", the school has built a characteristic professional system with the performing arts professional group as the core, supported by the stage art design, radio, film and television, and cultural tourism professional groups. It offers 31 majors, with more than 7,000 full-time students and 389 full-time teachers, including 32 with senior titles and 109 with associate senior titles. Since its establishment, the school has cultivated a large number of famous artists such as Zhou Lingzhao, Zhang Ye, Lei Jia, and Qu Ying, and is known as "the cradle of Hunan's literary and art army". It has successively won honors such as "National Advanced Collective in Cultural Work" and "Hunan Provincial Model Higher Vocational College".
