哈尔滨理工大学是黑龙江省人民政府与国家国防科技工业局共建高校，国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”支持高校，黑龙江省“双一流”建设高校。学校始建于1950年，历经哈尔滨工业大学富拉尔基分校、东北重型机械学院等发展阶段，1995年由原哈尔滨科学技术大学、哈尔滨电工学院和哈尔滨机电工程学院合并组建而成。

Harbin University of Science and Technology is a university jointly built by the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is supported by the "Midwest University Basic Capacity Construction Project" and a "Double First-Class" construction university in Heilongjiang Province. Founded in 1950, the university has gone through development stages such as the Fularji Branch of Harbin Institute of Technology and Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute. It was formed by the merger of the former Harbin University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Electrical Engineering and Harbin Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1995.

学校以工为主，理工结合，经、管、文、法、艺、教等多学科协调发展，在长期办学过程中形成了鲜明的办学特色和优势。学校现有4个校区，总占地面积163.2万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值6.8亿元。设有22个学院、65个本科专业，拥有8个博士学位授权一级学科、22个硕士学位授权一级学科、11个硕士专业学位类别。

The university focuses on engineering, combines science and engineering, and develops coordinatedly with multiple disciplines such as economics, management, literature, law, art, and education. It has formed distinct school-running characteristics and advantages in the long-term school-running process. The university currently has 4 campuses with a total area of 1.632 million square meters and a total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment of 680 million yuan. It has 22 colleges, 65 undergraduate majors, 8 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 22 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 11 categories of master's professional degrees.
