昆明城市学院前身为云南师范大学商学院，2000年6月经教育部批准设立，是云南省首批独立学院之一，2001年7月开始招生；2021年6月经教育部批准转设为昆明城市学院。学校是云南省优势特色民办本科院校、云南省高校文明校园培育学校、云南省绿美校园，云南省首个艺术教育研究中心、首个乐团教师人才培养基地、中国艺术教育促进会理事单位、坡芽情歌国家级非物质文化传承遗产传承基地，云南省首批足球学院、全国首个高校女子足球发展联盟首任理事长单位、云南省学生体育协会足球专业委员会主任单位、国家体育总局水上运动管理中心桨板项目高校发展计划之一以及昆明市人大常委会第四批基层立法联系点。

Kunming City College, formerly known as the Business College of Yunnan Normal University, was established in June 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is one of the first independent colleges in Yunnan Province and began enrolling students in July 2001. In June 2021, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be transformed into Kunming City College. The university is a private undergraduate college with advantages and characteristics in Yunnan Province, a cultivation school for civilized campuses in Yunnan Province's universities, a green and beautiful campus in Yunnan Province, the first art education research center in Yunnan Province, the first training base for orchestra teachers, a director unit of the China Art Education Promotion Association, a heritage base for the national intangible cultural heritage of Poya Love Songs, one of the first football colleges in Yunnan Province, the first chairman unit of the National University Women's Football Development Alliance, the director unit of the Football Professional Committee of Yunnan Provincial Students' Sports Association, one of the college development plans for paddleboard projects of the Water Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, and the fourth batch of grassroots legislative contact points of the Standing Committee of Kunming Municipal People's Congress.

学校实行两校区办学，海源、杨林两校区在校学生21000余人；专任教师1000余人，其中硕士及以上学位教师占70%以上，副高及以上职称教师占30%以上。现有7个教学单位，设置36个本科专业，5个专科专业，涵盖8个学科门类，形成了以教育类、艺术类专业为主，多学科协调发展的学科专业布局。学校坚持地方性、应用型办学定位，贯彻OBE教育理念，推进“四新”建设，推进产教融合。学校是云南省向应用型大学转型发展试点院校、云南省首批应用型本科人才培养示范院校建设单位。

The university operates two campuses, with more than 21,000 students at the Haiyuan and Yanglin campuses. There are over 1,000 full-time teachers, among whom more than 70% have master's degrees or above, and more than 30% have associate senior titles or above. Currently, there are 7 teaching units, offering 36 undergraduate programs and 5 junior college programs, covering 8 disciplines, forming a disciplinary and professional layout dominated by education and art programs with coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The university adheres to a local and application-oriented school-running orientation, implements the OBE educational concept, promotes the "Four New" construction, and advances the integration of industry and education. It is a pilot university for transforming into an application-oriented university in Yunnan Province and a construction unit of the first batch of demonstration universities for applied undergraduate talent training in Yunnan Province.
