National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) is a leading Russian institution for nuclear education and research. Founded in 1942 as the Moscow Mechanical Institute of Ammunition, it was renamed Moscow Engineering Physics Institute in 1953 and officially established as National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in 2009. As the core university of Russia's nuclear industry, it enjoys global recognition in fields such as nuclear physics, radiation technology, nanomaterials, and controlled nuclear fusion. Throughout its history, it has educated 6 Nobel laureates, including quantum electronics pioneer Nikolay Basov (1964 Nobel Prize in Physics) and physicist Andrei Sakharov.

As an international research hub, MEPhI has established collaborations with over 70 universities worldwide, including Tsinghua University, and participates in CERN projects. The campus preserves Soviet-era nuclear research heritage, with sculptures of Nobel laureates in front of the main building, highlighting its benchmark status in global nuclear education and peaceful use of nuclear energy.
