宁波大学是一所在改革开放中成长起来的新兴地方综合性大学，1986年由世界船王包玉刚先生捐资创立，邓小平同志题写校名。学校始终秉承“实事求是、经世致用”的校训和“爱国爱乡、创新创业”的宁大精神，坚持走特色发展之路，办学水平不断提升，已成为一所学科门类齐全、教学质量优秀、科研实力雄厚、师资队伍精良、国际交流广泛的综合性大学。

Ningbo University is an emerging local comprehensive university that has grown up during China's reform and opening-up. Founded in 1986 with a donation from Mr. Pao Yue-kong, the world's shipping tycoon, the university's name was inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping. Adhering to the school motto of "Seeking Truth from Facts and Applying Knowledge to Practical Use" and the Ningda spirit of "Patriotism, Love for Hometown, Innovation and Entrepreneurship", the university has always followed a path of characteristic development. Its educational level has been continuously improved, and it has become a comprehensive university with complete disciplines, excellent teaching quality, strong scientific research strength, outstanding faculty, and extensive international exchanges.

学校学科涵盖经、法、教、文、史、理、工、农、医、管、艺等十一大门类，设有25个学院、101个本科专业。拥有一级学科博士学位授权点9个，博士后科研流动站9个，一级学科硕士学位授权点31个，硕士专业学位授权类别25个。工程学、临床医学、化学、材料科学、动植物科学、农业科学、环境与生态学等7个学科进入ESI全球前1%。

The university's disciplines cover eleven major categories including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. It has 25 colleges and 101 undergraduate majors. It has 9 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 9 post-doctoral research stations, 31 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 25 master's professional degree authorization categories. Seven disciplines including Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Chemistry, Materials Science, Animal and Plant Science, Agricultural Science, and Environment/Ecology have entered the top 1% of ESI globally.

宁波大学坚持以学生发展为中心，注重培养学生的创新精神和实践能力，积极推进教育教学改革，人才培养质量稳步提升。学校拥有国家级一流本科专业建设点44个，国家级特色专业6个，通过教育部专业认证（评估）专业25个。近年来，学生在全国大学生“挑战杯”竞赛、数学建模竞赛、电子设计竞赛等各类学科竞赛中屡获佳绩。
