华北电力大学是教育部直属全国重点大学,是国家“双一流”建设高校、“211工程”建设高校,是教育部与国家电网有限公司等七家特大型电力企业集团组成的理事会共建高校,被誉为“中国电力行业的黄埔军校”。学校创建于1958年,原名北京电力学院,1969年迁至河北邯郸,1970年更名为河北电力学院,1978年经国务院批准为全国重点大学,同年更名为华北电力学院,1995年华北电力学院与北京动力经济学院合并组建华北电力大学,校部设在保定,分设北京校区。2005年10月,经教育部批准,学校校部由保定迁至北京,分设华北电力大学保定校区,两地实行一体化管理。
North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a "Double First-Class" construction university and a "211 Project" construction university. It is a council-co-constructed university composed of the Ministry of Education and seven large state-owned power enterprise groups including the State Grid Corporation of China. It is known as the "Whampoa Military Academy of China's power industry". Founded in 1958, the university was originally named Beijing Electric Power College. In 1969, it moved to Handan, Hebei Province, and was renamed Hebei Electric Power College in 1970. In 1978, it was approved by the State Council as a national key university and renamed North China Electric Power College in the same year. In 1995, North China Electric Power College merged with Beijing Institute of Power Economics to form North China Electric Power University, with its headquarters in Baoding and a branch campus in Beijing. In October 2005, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the headquarters of the university was moved from Baoding to Beijing, and the Baoding Campus of North China Electric Power University was established, and the two places are managed integrally.
