南京体育学院始建于1956年，由南京体育学校、江苏师范学院体育专修科和江苏省体育干部培训班合并而成，是江苏省唯一一所独立建制的体育高等学府和重要的省级竞技体育训练基地，是江苏省体育局和江苏省教育厅共管的省属重点建设大学，被誉为“世界冠军的摇篮”，校训为“严、和、朴、实”。学校坐落于古都南京，拥有灵谷寺、仙林、五棵松（筹）三个校区，灵谷寺主校区位于南京市东郊紫金山南麓原民国中央体育场旧址，占地640余亩。

Nanjing Sport Institute was founded in 1956 through the merger of Nanjing Sports School, the Physical Education Department of Jiangsu Normal College, and the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Cadre Training Course. It is the only independent sports institution of higher learning in Jiangsu Province and an important provincial-level competitive sports training base. Co-administered by the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Sports and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, it is a key provincial university known as the "Cradle of World Champions" with the motto "Strictness, Harmony, Simplicity, and Practicality". Located in the ancient capital of Nanjing, the university has three campuses: Linggu Temple, Xianlin, and Wukesong (under preparation). The main Linggu Temple campus is situated at the former site of the Republic of China Central Stadium on the southern slope of Zijin Mountain in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing, covering an area of over 640 mu.

学校设有体育教育与人文学院、运动训练学院、运动健康学院、体育休闲与产业学院、武术与艺术学院等5个高等教育学院，16个本科专业，涉及教育学、文学、管理学、医学、艺术学5个学科门类，拥有体育学一级学科硕士学位授权点和体育、教育、新闻与传播3个硕士专业学位授权点，有各类在校生5500余人。设有乒羽学院、网球学院、击剑学院、体操学院、游泳学院等5个竞技体育学院，拥有乒乓球、羽毛球、网球、击剑、体操、艺术体操、蹦床、技巧、游泳、跳水、花样游泳等11支省优秀运动队，现有专业运动员397名。

The university comprises 5 higher education colleges, including the School of Physical Education and Humanities, School of Sports Training, School of Sports Health, School of Sports Leisure and Industry, and School of Martial Arts and Arts, offering 16 undergraduate programs spanning 5 disciplines: Education, Literature, Management, Medicine, and Arts. It holds a first-level discipline master's degree authorization in Sports Science and 3 professional master's degree authorizations in Sports, Education, and Journalism & Communication, with over 5,500 students of various types. Additionally, there are 5 competitive sports colleges such as the Table Tennis and Badminton College, Tennis College, Fencing College, Gymnastics College, and Swimming College, housing 11 provincial excellent sports teams in events like table tennis, badminton, tennis, fencing, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, acrobatics, swimming, diving, and synchronized swimming, with 397 professional athletes currently enrolled.

学校积极推进学科专业建设和教育教学改革，获批博士学位授予立项建设单位；体育学连续四期获批江苏高校优势学科建设工程立项学科；拥有国家级一流本科专业5个，江苏省高校一流本科专业12个，国家级特色专业建设点3个，江苏省高校特色专业建设点4个，江苏省高校品牌专业建设点3个；获国家级高等教育教学成果奖3项，省级高等教育教学成果特等奖1项、一等奖6项、二等奖5项；拥有首批国家级一流课程2门，省级一流本科课程18门。建校以来，学校为国家培养输送了15位奥运冠军、88位世界冠军和世界纪录创造者，如栾菊杰、林莉、葛菲、顾俊、张军、黄旭、陈若琳等，为中国体育事业发展作出了重要贡献。

The university actively promotes discipline construction and educational reform, and has been approved as a doctoral degree-granting project construction unit. Sports Science has been approved as a key discipline in the Jiangsu Provincial Superior Discipline Construction Project for four consecutive phases. It boasts 5 national first-class undergraduate programs, 12 Jiangsu provincial first-class undergraduate programs, 3 national-level characteristic specialty construction sites, 4 provincial-level characteristic specialty construction sites, and 3 provincial-level brand specialty construction sites. It has won 3 national higher education teaching achievement awards, 1 provincial special prize, 6 first prizes, and 5 second prizes in higher education teaching achievements. It also has 2 first batch of national first-class courses and 18 provincial first-class undergraduate courses. Since its establishment, the university has cultivated and sent 15 Olympic champions, 88 world champions, and world record holders such as Luan Jujie, Lin Li, Ge Fei, Gu Jun, Zhang Jun, Huang Xu, and Chen Ruolin, making important contributions to the development of China's sports industry.
