宁波东方理工大学是一所由社会力量举办、国家重点支持、省市共同建设的高起点、小而精、研究型、国际化的新型研究型大学，于2025年6月获教育部批复设立，同年12月正式揭牌成立。学校定位为新型研究型大学，紧紧围绕国家战略和经济社会发展急需，强化基础研究、聚焦前沿交叉、突出工程技术，培养拔尖创新人才。其办学愿景源于宁波籍企业家虞仁荣的教育情怀，他通过教育基金会累计捐赠价值超百亿元，推动学校以“基金会举办、党委把方向、董事会领导、教育家办学、行政服务学术”的新型治理结构探索高等教育创新路径。

Ningbo Oriental Institute of Technology (NOIT) is a high-start, small-but-elite, research-oriented, and international new-type research university co-founded by social forces, strongly supported by the state, and jointly built by provincial and municipal governments. Approved by the Ministry of Education in June 2025 and officially inaugurated in December of the same year, NOIT is positioned to address national strategic needs and socioeconomic development priorities through strengthening basic research, focusing on frontier interdisciplinary studies, and emphasizing engineering technologies to cultivate top-tier innovative talents. Its founding vision stems from the educational情怀 of Ningbo-born entrepreneur Yu Renrong, who has donated over 10 billion yuan through his education foundation, enabling the university to explore innovative higher education models under a unique governance structure featuring "foundation sponsorship, Party leadership, board governance, educational expertise-led management, and administration serving academia."

学校以中国科学院院士陈十一为校长核心，组建了一支高水平师资队伍，包括北京大学党委原副书记杨河等知名学者，并借鉴南方科技大学办学经验，实施PI制度（项目负责人制）激发科研活力。学科设置以理学、工学、信息、商科为主，兼具特色人文社科，采用中英文双语教学，2025年首年招生即实现浙江省内投档线仅次于浙江大学的亮眼成绩（最高分691分，最低分656分）。校园位于宁波甬江科创区，规划用地约2300亩，已与上海交通大学等高校联合培养博士生437名，累计发表700余篇高水平论文，获得30多亿元科研经费，展现出强劲的科研创新潜力。

Led by President Chen Shiyi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, NOIT has assembled a high-caliber faculty including renowned scholars like Yang He, former Deputy Secretary of Peking University's Party Committee. Drawing lessons from the development experience of Southern University of Science and Technology, it implements the Principal Investigator (PI) system to stimulate research vitality. The university offers disciplines centered on science, engineering, information technology, and business, complemented by distinctive humanities and social sciences programs, all delivered through bilingual Chinese-English instruction. In its inaugural 2025 enrollment, NOIT achieved impressive admission results in Zhejiang Province, with its cutoff score ranking second only to Zhejiang University (highest score 691, lowest score 656). Located in Ningbo's Yongjiang Sci-Tech Innovation Zone with a planned area of approximately 2,300 mu, the university has jointly trained 437 doctoral students with institutions like Shanghai Jiao Tong University, published over 700 high-impact academic papers, and secured more than 3 billion yuan in research funding, demonstrating strong potential for scientific innovation.
