中国人民解放军国防科技大学是直属中国共产党中央军事委员会领导的军队综合性大学，是国家“双一流”建设高校，肩负着为国防和军队现代化培养高素质新型军事人才、开展高水平国防科技研究的重要使命。学校前身是1953年创建于哈尔滨的中国人民解放军军事工程学院（简称“哈军工”），1970年主体南迁长沙，历经多次调整改革，1999年更名为国防科学技术大学，2017年以原国防科学技术大学、国际关系学院、国防信息学院、西安通信学院、电子工程学院以及理工大学气象海洋学院为基础重建，并划归中央军委建制领导。

The National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is a comprehensive military university directly under the leadership of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China. As a national "Double First-Class" construction university, it shoulders the important mission of cultivating high-quality new-type military talents for the modernization of national defense and the military, and conducting high-level national defense science and technology research. The predecessor of the university was the PLA Military Engineering Institute (known as "Harbin Institute of Military Engineering") founded in Harbin in 1953. In 1970, the main body moved south to Changsha. After several adjustments and reforms, it was renamed National University of Defense Technology in 1999. In 2017, it was rebuilt on the basis of the original National University of Defense Technology, Institute of International Relations, Institute of National Defense Information, Xi'an Institute of Communications, Electronic Engineering Institute, and Institute of Meteorology and Oceanography of the University of Science and Technology, and placed under the organizational leadership of the Central Military Commission.
