中国人民解放军战略支援部队航天工程大学是新一轮军队院校调整改革后,全军“双重”(重点院校、重点学科专业)院校、全军首批国防科技创新特区工作站设站单位、国家国防科技工业局共建大学。学校发源于“两弹一星”事业,前身为1978年成立的国防科工委干部学校,2017年7月经中央军委批准,以原装备学院为基础重建。
The Chinese People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force Aerospace Engineering University is a "dual" (key institution and key discipline) university of the whole army after the new round of military academy adjustment and reform, one of the first national defense science and technology innovation zone workstation units of the whole army, and a university jointly built by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. Originating from the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" cause, the university was formerly known as the Cadre School of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense established in 1978. In July 2017, with the approval of the Central Military Commission, it was reorganized on the basis of the former Equipment Academy.

As the only higher education institution of the whole army that systematically cultivates aerospace talents, it has a comprehensive aerospace discipline system covering military science, engineering, science, management and other disciplines. It is a "2110 Project" construction institution of the army and has three campuses in Huairou, Changping and Shahe of Beijing.
