青海民族大学因党而生,与国同岁。1949年西宁解放后,为培养少数民族干部,经毛主席批复,学校前身——青海省青年干部训练班于12月12日成立,成为共和国第一所民族院校、青藏高原第一所高等学府。学校历经三次迁址、五度更名,始终肩负教育与民族工作双重使命,是培养民族地区人才、研究民族问题、促进民族团结的重要基地。
Qinghai Minzu University was born with the Party and has grown with the nation. After the liberation of Xining in 1949, to cultivate ethnic minority cadres, with approval from Chairman Mao, the predecessor of the university—Qinghai Provincial Youth Cadre Training Class—was established on December 12, becoming the first ethnic institution of higher learning in the People's Republic of China and the first university on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Having undergone three relocations and five name changes, the university has always shouldered the dual missions of education and ethnic work, serving as a key base for cultivating talents in ethnic regions, researching ethnic issues, and promoting ethnic unity.
学校现有东序、西昆等五个校区,占地面积约1400亩,教职工1262名,专任教师829名,博士化率35.34%。学科涵盖十二大门类,拥有民族学等2个博士学位授权一级学科、19个硕士学位授权一级学科,8个国家级一流本科专业建设点。在校生1.8万名,少数民族学生占比55.87%,建校以来共培养12万余名各民族人才,为青海及周边地区发展作出突出贡献。
