四川美术学院是中国西南地区唯一一所高等美术院校，发轫于1940年的四川省立艺术专科学校，历经重庆艺术专科学校、西南人民艺术学院美术系等发展阶段，1959年正式更名为四川美术学院，成为当时全国五大美术院校之一。学校以“志于道，游于艺”为校训，始终秉持“贴近生活、服务人民”的办学理念，在长期的艺术教育实践中形成了“扎根巴渝、服务西南、面向全国、走向世界”的办学定位。

Sichuan Fine Arts Institute is the only higher art institution in southwest China. It originated from the Sichuan Provincial College of Art in 1940, went through stages such as Chongqing College of Art and the Fine Arts Department of Southwest People's Art College, and was officially renamed Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1959, becoming one of the five major fine arts academies in China at that time. With the school motto of "Aspire to the Dao, Delight in the Arts", the university has always upheld the educational philosophy of "being close to life and serving the people", and has formed the educational orientation of "taking root in Bayu, serving Southwest China, facing the whole country and going to the world" in long-term art education practice.

学校现有黄桷坪校区和虎溪校区，总占地面积1200余亩。拥有艺术学门类下的美术学、设计学、戏剧与影视学、艺术学理论4个一级学科，其中美术学、设计学为重庆市一流学科，美术学是国家一流学科建设学科。学校设有11个二级学院，开设25个本科专业，涵盖绘画、雕塑、设计、建筑、影视、艺术理论等多个领域，形成了较为完整的高等美术教育体系。

The university currently has two campuses: Huangjueping and Huxi, covering a total area of more than 1,200 mu. It has 4 first-level disciplines under the category of art: Fine Arts, Design, Theatre and Film Studies, and Art Theory. Among them, Fine Arts and Design are first-class disciplines in Chongqing, and Fine Arts is a national first-class discipline construction discipline. The university has 11 secondary colleges and offers 25 undergraduate majors, covering painting, sculpture, design, architecture, film and television, art theory and other fields, forming a relatively complete higher art education system.
