山东现代学院始建于1993年，前身为山东民进中西医进修学院。2003年，经山东省人民政府批准，原山东民进中西医进修学院与山东现代计算机专修学院合并，成立山东现代职业学院。2015年，经教育部批准，学校升格为本科层次民办普通高校，更名为山东现代学院。2021年，学校被确定为山东省应用型本科高校建设支持单位。

Shandong Modern University was founded in 1993, formerly known as Shandong Minjin College of Chinese and Western Medicine Continuing Education. In 2003, with the approval of the People's Government of Shandong Province, the former Shandong Minjin College of Chinese and Western Medicine Continuing Education merged with Shandong Modern Computer College to establish Shandong Modern Vocational College. In 2015, approved by the Ministry of Education, the university was upgraded to a private general undergraduate institution and renamed Shandong Modern University. In 2021, it was identified as a support unit for the construction of application-oriented undergraduate universities in Shandong Province.

学校坚持社会主义办学方向，秉承“天道酬勤”的校训，以“立德树人、知行合一”为育人理念，实施“质量立校、人才强校、文化兴校、特色办校”战略。现设有8个教学单位，开设本科专业25个、专科专业18个，形成以医学、工学为主体，多学科协调发展的学科专业体系。现有全日制在校生17308人，教职工1041人，其中自有专任教师729人，具有硕士博士学位的教师占比89.3%。

The university adheres to the socialist orientation in running schools, upholds the school motto of "Heaven rewards diligence", takes "Establishing morality and cultivating people, integrating knowledge and practice" as its educational philosophy, and implements the strategy of "Building the university with quality, strengthening it with talents, prospering it with culture, and developing it with characteristics". It now has 8 teaching units, offering 25 undergraduate majors and 18 junior college majors, forming a disciplinary professional system with medicine and engineering as the mainstay and multi-disciplinary coordinated development. There are 17,308 full-time students and 1,041 faculty members, including 729 full-time teachers, with 89.3% of them holding master's or doctoral degrees.

学校总占地面积70.36万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值1.5亿元，馆藏纸质图书181万册。近年来，投资新建现代化图书馆、智慧教室及实验实训室，办学条件持续改善。近五年，教师主持国家级科研项目1项、省部级项目69项，学生获省级以上竞赛奖项1253人次，2023届本科毕业生去向落实率达86.65%。

The university covers a total area of 703,600 square meters, with teaching and research instruments and equipment worth 150 million yuan, and 1.81 million paper books in its collection. In recent years, investments have been made to build a modern library, smart classrooms and experimental training rooms, continuously improving the办学 conditions. In the past five years, teachers have presided over 1 national-level scientific research project and 69 provincial-level projects, and students have won 1,253 provincial and above competition awards. The employment rate of undergraduate graduates in 2023 reached 86.65%.

学校先后获评“全国学生就业实力十强民办高校”“山东省绿色学校”等称号，致力于培养服务地方经济社会发展的高素质应用型人才。
