Shandong University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education with a long history, complete disciplines, strong strength, and distinctive characteristics. It has an important influence at home and abroad and was selected as a national "Double First-Class" construction university (Class A) in 2017. Its predecessor was Shandong University Hall founded in 1901, known as one of the origin universities of modern higher education in China. For more than a hundred years, Shandong University has always been closely linked with the fate of the country and the nation. Adhering to the school-running purpose of "storing talents for the world and seeking prosperity for the country", it has made unremitting efforts and passed on the torch from generation to generation. It has formed the school motto of "Seeking Truth and Innovation" and the school spirit of "Having Noble Spirit and Endless Learning". It has cultivated more than 400,000 talents of various types for the country and society, making important contributions to national prosperity, national rejuvenation and regional development.

学校现有济南、威海、青岛三个校区，总占地面积8000余亩，形成了“一校三地”的办学格局。设有55个教学院系，4所附属医院，3所非隶属附属医院，开设137个本科专业，涵盖哲学、经济学、法学、教育学、文学、历史学、理学、工学、农学、医学、管理学、艺术学、交叉学科等13大学科门类。拥有一级学科国家重点学科2个（材料科学与工程、数学）、二级学科国家重点学科14个、国家重点（培育）学科3个，一级学科博士学位授权点44个，一级学科硕士学位授权点55个，博士后科研流动站42个，国家级科研平台18个，教育部人文社会科学重点研究基地4个，部委级平台64个。

The university currently has three campuses in Jinan, Weihai and Qingdao, covering a total area of more than 8,000 mu, forming a school-running pattern of "one university with three campuses". It has 55 teaching departments, 4 affiliated hospitals, 3 non-affiliated affiliated hospitals, and offers 137 undergraduate majors, covering 13 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, art, and interdisciplinary disciplines. It has 2 national key disciplines at the first level (Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics), 14 national key disciplines at the second level, 3 national key (cultivation) disciplines, 44 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 55 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 42 post-doctoral research stations, 18 national-level scientific research platforms, 4 key research bases for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and 64 ministerial-level platforms.

学校坚持以人才培养为根本，深入推进教育教学改革，着力培养具有家国情怀、全球视野、创新精神和实践能力的高素质人才。现有全日制本科生42281人，研究生26818人，留学生1560人。拥有中国科学院和工程院院士（含双聘）21人，国家杰出青年科学基金获得者53人，国家优秀青年科学基金获得者58人，“万人计划”领军人才34人，“万人计划”青年拔尖人才18人，国家级教学名师11人，国家级教学团队18个，国家级一流本科专业建设点102个，国家级一流本科课程155门。在全国第四轮学科评估中，山东大学有8个学科入选A类，其中数学、控制科学与工程、材料科学与工程、临床医学4个学科获评A-，另有31个学科入选B类，学科整体实力位居全国高校前列。

Currently, there are 42,281 full-time undergraduates, 26,818 postgraduates and 1,560 international students. It has 21 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering (including double-employed), 53 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 58 winners of the National Excellent Youth Science Fund, 34 leading talents of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 18 young top talents of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 11 national-level teaching masters, 18 national-level teaching teams, 102 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 155 national-level first-class undergraduate courses. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, Shandong University has 8 disciplines selected into Class A, among which mathematics, control science and engineering, materials science and engineering, and clinical medicine are rated as A-, and another 31 disciplines are selected into Class B. The overall strength of disciplines ranks among the top universities in the country.
