上海公安学院是上海唯一培养高素质应用型警务人才的公安高等院校，也是公安部设立的全国公安师资、外警、科技信息化、网络警察、警察心理等培训基地、实验中心和全国公安微课程研发中心，全国公安职业教育教学指导委员会秘书处也设在学院。

Shanghai Police College is the only public security higher education institution in Shanghai that cultivates high-quality applied police talents. It is also a training base, experimental center, and national public security micro-course research and development center established by the Ministry of Public Security for national public security teachers, foreign police, science and technology informatization, cyber police, and police psychology. The secretariat of the National Public Security Vocational Education and Teaching Steering Committee is also located at the college.

学院前身是创建于1949年6月的上海市人民政府公安局警务学校，历经中央公安学院上海分院、上海市公安学校、上海公安专科学校、上海公安高等专科学校等发展阶段。2017年6月学院正式揭牌成立，上海公安高等教育事业掀开升级发展新篇章。建校70多年来，学院为上海乃至全国公安政法系统培养输送了4万余名毕业生，培训在职民警40万余人次，被誉为申城“警察的摇篮、警官的熔炉”。

The college's predecessor was the Police School of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Public Security Bureau founded in June 1949. It has gone through development stages such as the Shanghai Branch of the Central People's Public Security College, Shanghai Public Security School, Shanghai Public Security College, and Shanghai Public Security Higher Vocational College. In June 2017, the college was officially inaugurated, marking a new chapter in the upgrading and development of Shanghai's public security higher education. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, the college has trained and输送 over 40,000 graduates for the public security and political legal systems in Shanghai and even the whole country, and trained more than 400,000 in-service police officers, known as the "cradle of police officers and the melting pot of police chiefs" in Shanghai.
