Shanghai Maritime University is a multidisciplinary university featuring shipping, logistics, and oceanography, with disciplines including engineering, management, economics, law, literature, science, and art. Its predecessor was the Shipping Department of Shanghai Higher Industrial School of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications founded in 1909. After several changes, the Ministry of Communications established Shanghai Maritime University in Shanghai in 1959, and it was renamed Shanghai Maritime University with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 2004.
