Southwest Jiaotong University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and one of the first universities included in China's "Double First-Class", "Project 211" and "Characteristic Project 985" initiatives. 学校创建于1896年，前身为山海关北洋铁路官学堂，是中国第一所工程教育高等学府，开创了中国铁路高等教育的先河。百余年来，学校始终与国家发展同频共振，培养了以茅以升、竺可桢等为代表的30余万名优秀人才，被誉为“中国铁路工程师的摇篮”。

Founded in 1896 as the Shanhaiguan Beiyang Railway Official School, it is China's first higher education institution specializing in engineering education, pioneering higher education for railways in China. Over more than a century, the university has always developed in step with the national development, cultivating more than 300,000 outstanding talents represented by Mao Yisheng and Zhu Kezhen, and is known as "the cradle of Chinese railway engineers".
