沈阳体育学院原名东北体育学院，创立于1954年，隶属国家体委（国家体育总局），2001年由国家体育总局与辽宁省人民政府共建，是我国体育行业骨干院校之一，目前由辽宁省教育厅主管。学校占地面积1688亩，建筑面积30.66万平方米，其中雪上运动中心（白清寨校区）占地757亩。

Shenyang Sport University, formerly known as Northeast Institute of Physical Education, was founded in 1954 and was affiliated to the State Sports Commission (General Administration of Sport of China). In 2001, it was co-constructed by the General Administration of Sport of China and the People's Government of Liaoning Province. It is one of the key institutions in China's sports industry and is currently under the administration of the Education Department of Liaoning Province. The university covers an area of 1,688 mu, with a building area of 306,600 square meters, among which the Snow Sports Center (Baiqingzhai Campus) covers 757 mu.

学校是国家首批体育学一级学科硕士学位和体育硕士专业学位授权单位，体育学一级学科下设体育人文社会学、运动人体科学、体育教育训练学、民族传统体育学、体育管理学、运动康复学6个二级学科，同时拥有全日制（非全日制）体育硕士专业学位授予权、新闻与传播硕士专业学位授予权。学校被列为辽宁省国内一流大学重点建设高校，体育学学科入选辽宁省国内一流学科重点建设学科名单。

The university is one of the first national institutions authorized to grant master's degrees in the first-level discipline of physical education and professional master's degrees in sports. The first-level discipline of physical education has 6 secondary disciplines: Sports Humanities and Sociology, Exercise Human Science, Physical Education and Training, Traditional Ethnic Sports, Sports Management, and Sports Rehabilitation. It also has the right to grant full-time (part-time) professional master's degrees in sports and master's degrees in journalism and communication. The university is listed as a key construction university for domestic first-class universities in Liaoning Province, and the discipline of physical education is included in the list of key construction disciplines for domestic first-class disciplines in Liaoning Province.
