天津工业大学是天津市重点建设的全日制普通高等学校，是教育部与天津市共建高校、国家国防科技工业局和天津市人民政府共建高校、世界一流学科建设高校。学校历史悠久，始建于1912年的北京工业专门学校机织科，后历经多次调整与发展，于2000年更名为天津工业大学。学校以工为主，工、理、文、管、经、法、艺等多学科协调发展，在纺织科学与工程、材料科学与工程、机械工程等领域具有鲜明特色和优势，其中纺织科学与工程学科入选国家“双一流”建设学科。

Tianjin Polytechnic University is a key full-time ordinary institution of higher education in Tianjin. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipality, a university jointly built by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, and a university with world-class discipline construction. With a long history, the university originated from the Weaving Department of Beijing Industrial College founded in 1912. After many adjustments and developments, it was renamed Tianjin Polytechnic University in 2000. The university focuses on engineering and develops coordinatedly with multiple disciplines such as science, liberal arts, management, economics, law, and art. It has distinctive characteristics and advantages in fields such as textile science and engineering, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering. Among them, the discipline of textile science and engineering was selected into the national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines.

学校坚持立德树人根本任务，致力于培养高素质创新型人才。现有全日制在校生3万余人，其中本科生2万余人、研究生近1万人。学校拥有一支结构合理、素质优良的师资队伍，现有教职工2000余人，其中具有高级职称的教师800余人，两院院士、国家杰出青年科学基金获得者等国家级人才50余人次。学校教学设施完善，科研实力雄厚，拥有多个国家级、省部级重点实验室和科研平台，积极开展产学研合作，为国家和地方经济社会发展作出了重要贡献。
