天津体育学院成立于1958年8月，是新中国最早建立的体育高等院校之一，2017年入选天津市高水平特色大学建设高校。学校坚持以立德树人为根本，以建设“国内一流、国际知名的高水平体育大学”为目标，形成了涵盖本科、硕士、博士的完整人才培养体系。

Tianjin University of Sport was founded in August 1958 and is one of the earliest established institutions of higher physical education in New China. In 2017, it was selected as a high-level characteristic university in Tianjin. Adhering to the fundamental task of cultivating virtue through education, the university aims to build a "first-class domestic and internationally renowned high-level sports university", forming a complete talent training system covering undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs.

学校学科特色鲜明，体育学入选天津市一流学科建设名单，拥有体育学一级学科博士学位授权点和博士后科研流动站，形成了以体育学为核心，教育学、医学、管理学等多学科协调发展的学科布局。

The university has distinctive disciplinary characteristics. Sports Science has been included in Tianjin's first-class discipline construction list, with a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point in Sports Science and a post-doctoral research station. It has formed a disciplinary layout with Sports Science as the core, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as Education, Medicine, and Management.

学校重视教育教学改革与科研创新，拥有国家级一流本科专业建设点6个，省部级重点实验室3个，承担多项国家级、省部级科研项目，在运动人体科学、体育教育训练学等领域成果显著。
