天津医科大学是国家“双一流”建设高校，天津市人民政府、国家卫生健康委员会和教育部共建高校，是一所以医学为核心，以生命科学为依托，工、理、文、管、法、教等多学科协调发展的医科大学。学校前身是创建于1951年的天津医学院，1994年与天津第二医学院合并组建天津医科大学，1996年成为国家“211工程”重点建设院校，2017年入选国家“双一流”建设高校，2022年入选第二轮“双一流”建设高校。

Tianjin Medical University is a national "Double First-Class" construction university, a university jointly built by the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, the National Health Commission, and the Ministry of Education. It is a medical university with medicine as its core, life sciences as its support, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, science, literature, management, law, and education. The predecessor of the university was Tianjin Medical College founded in 1951. In 1994, it merged with Tianjin Second Medical College to form Tianjin Medical University. In 1996, it became a key construction institution of the national "211 Project". In 2017, it was selected into the national "Double First-Class" construction universities, and in 2022, it was selected into the second round of "Double First-Class" construction universities.

学校现有气象台路与广东路两个校区，占地面积40万平方米，建筑面积45.5万平方米。设有19个学院（系）、1个独立学院、6所大学医院，建有国家级一流本科专业建设点26个，国家级特色专业5个，国家级专业综合改革试点1个，国家级精品课程9门，国家级一流本科课程37门，国家级教学团队2个，国家级实验教学示范中心3个，国家级虚拟仿真实验教学中心2个，国家级人才培养模式创新实验区3个。

The university currently has two campuses, Qixiangtai Road and Guangdong Road, covering an area of 400,000 square meters with a building area of 455,000 square meters. It has 19 colleges (departments), 1 independent college, and 6 university hospitals. It has built 26 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 5 national characteristic majors, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot, 9 national excellent courses, 37 national first-class undergraduate courses, 2 national teaching teams, 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 3 national talent training model innovation experimental zones.
