Tongren University is located in Tongren City, Guizhou Province, known as the "Pure Land of Buddhism · Peach Blossom Land Tongren". It is situated in the Chuandong Education Park at the foot of Fanjing Mountain and by the Jinjiang River. The campus is lush, magnificent, solemn, and full of vitality. The university is a national "13th Five-Year" industry-education integration development project construction university, a recipient of the Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award for Excellent School, a construction institution of the Ministry of Education's Scientific Work Ability Improvement Plan, one of the first pilot universities in Guizhou Province to transform into application-oriented universities, and a national and provincial civilized unit, a national base for ethnic unity and progress education, a demonstration benchmark university for "Three-All Education" in Guizhou Province. It is also a council member unit of the China University Aquaculture Discipline Development Association and a member unit of the China New Agricultural Science Aquaculture Alliance.

With a century of inheritance and forge ahead, the university has cultivated tens of thousands of talents for the country and society, emerging a large number of academic elites, industry leaders, party and government cadres, and teaching masters, making important contributions to national and regional economic and social development. The university originated from Mingde School founded in 1920. After several inheritances and evolutions, it was upgraded to a regular undergraduate university in 2006. In 2010, it passed the evaluation of bachelor's degree-granting units; in 2013, it passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching work; in 2020, it was added as a master's degree-granting unit, realizing a leap in the level of running a school and opening a new chapter of high-quality development.

学校占地约796亩，实验实习用房面积约5.9万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值11391.6万元。馆藏纸质图书118万册，电子图书318万册。设有11个二级学院，2个特色学院（乌江学院、写作研究院），1个研究生院，1个继续教育学院。有36个本科招生专业，涵盖教育学、工学、理学、文学、管理学、艺术学、农学等学科门类。在校全日制本科8387人，研究生60人。

The university covers an area of about 796 mu, with an experimental and internship room area of about 59,000 square meters, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 113.916 million yuan. The library has 1.18 million paper books and 3.18 million e-books. It has 11 secondary colleges, 2 characteristic colleges (Wujiang College, Writing Research Institute), 1 graduate school, and 1 continuing education college. There are 36 undergraduate enrollment majors, covering disciplines such as education, engineering, science, literature, management, art, and agriculture. There are 8,387 full-time undergraduates and 60 postgraduates.
