太原理工大学是国家“双一流”建设高校，国家“211工程”重点建设大学，教育部第一批“卓越工程师教育培养计划”实施高校，国家“中西部高校基础能力建设工程”入选高校。学校坐落于山西省省会太原市，前身是1902年创立的山西大学堂西学专斋，历经山西大学校工科、山西大学工学院等发展阶段，1953年独立建校，定名太原工学院，1984年更名为太原工业大学，1997年与始建于1958年的山西矿业学院合并组建太原理工大学。

Taiyuan University of Technology is a national "Double First-Class" construction university, a key university under the national "211 Project", one of the first universities to implement the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" by the Ministry of Education, and a university selected into the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Central and Western Universities". Located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, the university originated from the Western Studies College of Shanxi University founded in 1902. It has gone through stages such as the Faculty of Engineering of Shanxi University and the College of Engineering of Shanxi University. It was established as an independent university in 1953 and named Taiyuan Institute of Technology. In 1984, it was renamed Taiyuan University of Technology. In 1997, it merged with Shanxi Institute of Mining, which was founded in 1958, to form Taiyuan University of Technology.

学校学科实力雄厚，设有84个本科专业，涵盖工、理、文、管、经、法、艺、教等八大学科门类。拥有15个一级学科博士点，34个一级学科硕士点，24个硕士专业学位授权点，1个国家重点学科，13个山西省重点学科。在第四轮学科评估中，机械工程、材料科学与工程、化学工程与技术3个学科进入B+行列。学校大力推进科研创新，拥有4个国家重点实验室、国家工程研究中心等国家级科研平台，在能源化工、新材料、智能制造等领域取得了一系列重大科研成果。

The university has strong disciplinary strength, offering 84 undergraduate majors covering eight disciplines including engineering, science, liberal arts, management, economics, law, art, and education. It has 15 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 34 first-level discipline master programs, 24 professional master's degree authorization programs, 1 national key discipline, and 13 Shanxi provincial key disciplines. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, three disciplines—Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering and Technology—ranked in the B+ category. The university vigorously promotes scientific research innovation, with 4 national key laboratories, national engineering research centers and other national-level scientific research platforms, and has achieved a series of major scientific research results in the fields of energy and chemical engineering, new materials, and intelligent manufacturing.
