国际关系学院始建于1949年，在周恩来总理的亲切关怀下成立，地处北京海淀三山五园核心区域，西望颐和园，东临圆明园，地理位置和教育科研环境优越，是一所富有优良办学传统的全国重点大学。党和国家领导人长期重视学校发展，周恩来、朱德、邓颖超等老一辈无产阶级革命家曾多次来校视察，陈毅副总理亲笔题写校名，邓小平、陈云、叶剑英等中央领导同志也对学校建设作出重要批示。

The University of International Relations (UIR) was founded in 1949 under the personal care of Premier Zhou Enlai. Located in the core area of the "Three Hills and Five Gardens" in Haidian District, Beijing, it overlooks the Summer Palace to the west and the Old Summer Palace to the east, boasting a superior geographical location and educational research environment. As a national key university with fine educational traditions, UIR has long been valued by Party and state leaders. Elder generation revolutionaries such as Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and Deng Yingchao visited the university many times; Vice Premier Chen Yi inscribed the university name; and central leaders including Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yun, and Ye Jianying provided important instructions for its development.

学校以国际问题和外语教学科研为特色，历经多次关键发展转型：曾为新中国第一批将军大使开办培训班，20世纪50年代首创侧重外国当代语言学习的教学方法，1964年被列为全国重点大学，1981年成为全国首批硕士学位授予单位，1983年率先完成从单一外语院校向多学科复合型院校的转型。现拥有博士、硕士、学士全学段培养体系，开设国际政治、国际经济与贸易、英语、法学等10个本科专业，其中国家安全学入选北京市高精尖学科，6个专业成为国家级一流本科专业建设点。

UIR specializes in international studies and foreign language education, undergoing several critical transformations: it trained New China's first batch of "general ambassadors," pioneered modern foreign language teaching methods in the 1950s, was listed as a national key university in 1964, became one of China's first master's degree-granting institutions in 1981, and took the lead in transforming from a single foreign language institute to a multidisciplinary university in 1983. Currently offering a complete education system covering doctoral, master's, and bachelor's programs, UIR provides 10 undergraduate majors including International Politics, International Economics and Trade, English, and Law. Its National Security Studies is a Beijing Municipal Key Discipline, with 6 majors recognized as National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites.

学校坚持"知时知势、至诚至精"的办学理念，实行小班精细化培养和三学期制（含夏季国际师资授课学期），注重外语能力与国际视野培养。师资队伍涵盖国际问题研究专家、国家级教学名师及海外留学背景教师，与多国高校建立合作关系，学生在国家级学科竞赛中屡获佳绩。建校以来，为政府部门、科研院所、涉外企业输送了大批复合型人才，许多毕业生成长为国际事务领域的专家学者和业务骨干。

Adhering to the educational philosophy of "Understanding the Times, Sincere Dedication, Pursuing Excellence," UIR implements small-class intensive training and a three-semester system (including a summer semester with international faculty). It emphasizes foreign language proficiency and global perspective cultivation. The faculty includes international studies experts, national-level teaching masters, and teachers with overseas backgrounds. UIR has established partnerships with universities worldwide, and its students have won numerous awards in national academic competitions. Since its founding, UIR has cultivated大批 interdisciplinary talents for government agencies, research institutions, and foreign-related enterprises, with many graduates becoming renowned scholars and professionals in international affairs.
